Daan Veldhuizen (born 1982), is a Dutch director, editor and cinematographer. [1] He is best known as the director of the critically acclaimed documentaries Stories from Lakka Beach, Banana Pancakes and the Children of Sticky Rice and Laos - Alles hat seinen Preis.
He was born in 1982 in Bussum, Netherlands.
He holds a degree in audiovisual arts from the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam. [2] During his studies, he simultaneously started working in the field as a director, cinematographer and editor. [3] After his initial focus on fiction narratives he eventually directed his attention to documentary filmmaking.
In 2011, he released his first feature documentary Stories from Lakka Beach about a forgotten beach resort town in war torn Sierra Leone. He produced, directed, filmed and edited the film. The documentary received critical acclaim, was nominated at IDFA for Best Dutch Documentary [4] and was aired nationwide by PBS in the US.
His second documentary Banana Pancakes and the Children of Sticky Rice is set in Laos. [5] The documentary looks at tourism from a cleverly balanced perspective: as backpackers visit a small village in remote northern Laos, the inhabitants of the village discover the attractions of the West. They find themselves on a crossroad of their respective desires. [6] The documentary premiered at IFFR and was theatrically released in The Netherlands, Germany and Switzerland. ARTE broadcast the film under the alternative name Laos, alles hat seinen preis.
For the acclaimed future affairs series VPRO backlight, he directed the episodes Invasion of the Drones, The End of Cheap Nature, Human in Command and Surviving Chaos. [7]

The VPRO is a Dutch public broadcaster, that is part of the Dutch public broadcasting system. It was founded in 1926 as a liberal Protestant radio station. In the 1950s and 1960s it gradually became social liberal rather than Protestant, and the original meaning of the acronym was eventually dropped.
International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) is an annual film festival held at the end of January in various locations in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Leonard Retel Helmrich is a Dutch cinematographer and film director. He was born the 16th of August 1959 in Tilburg, Netherlands and has lived in Amsterdam since 1982. He received highest honours for international documentaries at the Sundance Festival and was the first two-time International Documentary winner at the International Documentary Filmfestival Amsterdam (IDFA). On June 5, 2018 he was rewarded by the Dutch King Willem-Alexander with the title Knight in the Order of the Netherlands Lion, a very high distinction.
The Truth According to Wikipedia, also referred to as Wiki's Truth, is a Dutch documentary about Wikipedia directed by IJsbrand van Veelen. It was screened at The Next Web conference in Amsterdam on 4 April 2008 and broadcast by the Dutch documentary series Backlight on Nederland 2 on 7 April 2008. It was subsequently made available through American Public Television.
Mike Redman (1978) is a musician, record producer, film maker, label owner and multidisciplinary artist from the Netherlands. The 50th International Film Festival Rotterdam, was the 2021 installment of the International Film Festival Rotterdam, which took place on 1–7 February 2021 and 2–6 June 2021. The first part of the edition focused on the main Tiger, Big Screen, Ammodo Tiger Short, and Limelight programmes. The 51st International Film Festival Rotterdam, is the 2022 edition of the International Film Festival Rotterdam, which took place online from 26 January 2022 to 6 February 2022. The festival, which was held online for the second consecutive year due to the spread of the Omicron variant across Europe, opened with Amanda Kramer's film Please Baby Please. The festival closed with the screening of 1967 sword fighting classic Dragon Inn by King Hu on 6 February 2022.
