Dala is a Canadian acoustic-folk two-piece musical group, made up by Sheila Carabine and Amanda Walther, both of Scarborough, Ontario.
Sheila Carabine and Amanda Walther first met at Mary Ward Catholic Secondary School, at a high school band practice. [1] Quickly afterwards, Carabine and Walther's friendship blossomed and they formed Dala in the summer of 2002. Their "innate understanding of music" and "vocal range" helped propel them towards signing a five-year artist development deal with Big Bold Sun Music on December 12, 2003, and on April 3, 2005, Dala released their first album, This Moment Is a Flash . [2]
On August 8, 2005, Dala signed its first major record deal with Universal Music. Soon thereafter, on November 1, the band released its first major album, Angels & Thieves , containing five original songs and five covers. Immediately afterwards, Dala went out on tour to support the album, including a brief stint in early 2007 opening for Tom Cochrane. Returning to the studio after the tour, the band released their album Who Do You Think You Are on August 14, 2007, with the lead single "Anywhere Under the Moon" entering MuchMoreMusic rotation. Dala finished opening for Matthew Good on a cross-Canada tour in Cobalt, Ontario on November 3, 2007.
In 2008, Dala joined Stuart McLean, the host of CBC Radio's Vinyl Cafe , for three separate Canadian tours. Other musical guests featured on these tours include Danny Michel and Russell deCarle.
Over the course of their career, Dala has contributed cover songs to several compilations. The Angels & Thieves recordings of "Dream a Little Dream of Me", The Cure's "Lovesong", and Neil Young's "A Man Needs a Maid" were released on Just Like Heaven - a tribute to The Cure (2009), Sing Me To Sleep - Indie Lullabies (2010), and Cinnamon Girl - Women Artists Cover Neil Young (2008) respectively. Cinnamon Girl also included the duo's cover of Young's "Ohio", which was recorded for the 2007 compilation Borrowed Tunes II: A Tribute to Neil Young .
The duo released their fourth album, Everyone Is Someone , on June 9, 2009. Lead single "Levi Blues" was nominated in the Mainstream Adult Contemporary category at the 2010 Canadian Radio Music Awards. [3]
The duo taped a performance for PBS in February 2010, which aired in June as Girls from the North Country. The performance also featured Canadian all-girl acts The Good Lovelies and Oh Susanna, and included covers of songs by Joni Mitchell, Gordon Lightfoot, Leonard Cohen, Neil Young, and Bob Dylan. [4] That year the band won Vocal Group of the Year at the Canadian Folk Music Awards. [5] [6]
In the spring of 2012, Dala released their fifth studio album, Best Day , which earned three Canadian Folk Music Award nominations for English Songwriter of the Year, Vocal Group of the Year, and Producer of the Year. [7]
In between long breaks from recording, Amanda Walther and her brothers and cousins, as the WW Club, released a children's album More Better in June 2015. [8] Sheila Carabine's solo album was planned for release in 2016. [9]

Neil Percival Young is a Canadian and American singer-songwriter. After embarking on a music career in Winnipeg in the 1960s, Young moved to Los Angeles, joining the folk-rock group Buffalo Springfield. Since the beginning of his solo career, often with backing by the band Crazy Horse, he has released critically acclaimed albums such as Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere (1969), After the Gold Rush (1970), Harvest (1972), On the Beach (1974), and Rust Never Sleeps (1979). He was also a part-time member of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, with whom he recorded the chart-topping 1970 album Déjà Vu.

Tegan and Sara is a Canadian indie pop duo formed in 1998 in Calgary, Alberta. The band is led by identical twin sisters, Tegan Rain Quin and Sara Keirsten Quin. Both musicians are songwriters and multi-instrumentalists.
Alexisonfire is a Canadian post-hardcore band formed in St. Catharines, Ontario in 2001. The band's members are George Pettit (vocals), Dallas Green, Wade MacNeil, Chris Steele (bass) and Jordan Hastings. The band has won numerous awards, and in Canada their albums have all been certified either gold or platinum.
Cara Elizabeth Dillon is a Northern Irish folk singer. In 1995, she joined the folk supergroup Equation and signed a record deal with Warners Music Group. After leaving the group, she collaborated with Sam Lakeman under the name Polar Star. In 2001, she released her first solo album, Cara Dillon, which featured traditional songs and two original Dillon/Lakeman compositions. The album was an unexpected hit in the folk world, with Dillon receiving four nominations at the 2002 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards.
Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere is the second studio album by Canadian-American musician Neil Young, released in May 1969 on Reprise Records, catalogue number RS 6349. His first with longtime backing band Crazy Horse, it emerged as a sleeper hit amid Young's contemporaneous success with Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, ultimately peaking at number 34 on the US Billboard 200 in August 1970 during a 98-week chart stay. It has been certified platinum by the RIAA.
Lawrence Henry Gowan is a Scottish born Canadian singer and keyboardist. Gowan is a solo artist and has also been vocalist and keyboardist of the band Styx since May 1999. His musical style is usually classified in the categories of pop and progressive rock.
"Heart of Gold" is a song by Canadian singer-songwriter Neil Young. From his fourth album Harvest, it is Young's only U.S. No. 1 single. In Canada, it reached No. 1 on the RPM national singles chart for the first time on April 8, 1972, on which date Young held the top spot on both the singles and albums charts, and No. 1 again on May 13. Billboard ranked it as the No. 17 song for 1972.
Dallas Michael John Albert Green is a Canadian musician, singer, songwriter and record producer who records under the name City and Colour. He is also known for his contributions as a singer, rhythm guitarist and songwriter for the post-hardcore band Alexisonfire. In 2005, he debuted his first full-length album, Sometimes, which achieved platinum certification in 2006. City and Colour began performing in small intimate venues between Alexisonfire tours. The name City and Colour comes from his own name: Dallas, a city, and Green, a colour. His reasoning for the name was that he felt uneasy "putting the album out under the name Dallas Green".
Prairie Oyster was a Canadian country music group from Toronto, Ontario. They were named Country Group or Duo of the year six times by both the Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA) and the Juno Awards. The band also won the Bud Country Fans' Choice Award from the CCMA in 1994. They have four No. 1 country singles in Canada, with an additional 12 singles reaching the Canadian Country Top 10. Eight of their albums have been certified gold or platinum by the Canadian Recording Industry Association, including the 1992 CCMA Album of the Year Everybody Knows.

Plumtree was a Canadian indie rock/power pop band formed in 1993 in Halifax which consisted of sisters Carla and Lynette Gillis, Amanda Braden, Nina Martin, and later Catriona Sturton. The band achieved moderate success during their seven years of activity, completing several tours of Canada and parts of the U.S., as well as releasing three full-length albums, a six track EP, and various singles, before finally disbanding in June 2000. Their single "Scott Pilgrim" was the inspiration for the title character in the graphic novel series by Bryan Lee O'Malley.

Crown Lands is a Canadian rock music duo from Oshawa, Ontario. The band consists of vocalist/drummer Cody Bowles, and guitarist/bassist/keyboardist Kevin Comeau. With prog-rock influences, the duo compose music and lyrics inspired by Indigenous resistance to colonialism. They have stated that their name, "Crown Lands", communicates a desire to disrupt the concept of Canadian "crown land", or government-held lands stolen from First Nations.
