She was born in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, of Serbian descent.

Career

Gavanski had considered following her father Ogden into the film industry. [1] [ failed verification ] After developing her music for a year she released her first EP, Spring Demos, in 2017 via Fox Food Records. [1] [ failed verification ]

In 2019 Gavanski released two singles, "One by One" and "Catch"; both were co-produced by Mike Lindsay of Tunng. [2] [3]

Gavanski recorded two sessions for BBC Radio 6 Music's Marc Riley show in 2019. [4] [5] In early 2020, Gavanski supported Damien Jurado on his European tour. [6]

On 27 March 2020, Gavanski released her debut full-length album, Yesterday Is Gone. [7] Exclaim! music magazine, which had declared Gavanski as one of "eight emerging Canadian artists you should hear," [8] awarded the album 9/10. [9] Music website Monkeybiz described the album as "a beautiful work of art". [10] BBC Radio 6 Music made Yesterday Is Gone its album of the week. [11] [ unreliable source? ]

The tour to promote Yesterday Is Gone was postponed, initially until later in 2020 and subsequently until 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. [12]

On 5 June 2020, Gavanski released a cover version of King Crimson's "I Talk to the Wind" with proceeds donated to charity. [13] On 14 August 2020 she released Wind Songs, an EP composed of four cover versions and a traditional Macedonian folk song. [14] [7]

Cherry Ghost were an English music group which began in 2006, first as an alias for singer-songwriter Simon Aldred as a solo artist, before morphing into a full band. Their debut album, Thirst for Romance, was released in July 2007 and entered the UK Album Charts at No. 7. It was nominated for an Ivor Novello award as well as winning Aldred an Ivor Novello for best song "People Help the People". A second album, titled Beneath This Burning Shoreline, was released in July 2010 to positive critical acclaim. Aldred, under the moniker Out Cold, released a solo album titled Invasion of Love in September 2013, featuring a markedly synthpop sound.
