The World DanceSport Federation (WDSF), formerly the International DanceSport Federation (IDSF), is the international governing body of dancesport and Para dancesport, as recognised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the International Paralympic Committee (IPC).
Dancesport is competitive ballroom dancing, as contrasted to social or exhibition dancing. In the case of Para dancesport, at least one of the dancers is in a wheelchair.
Formation dance is a style of ballroom dancing. It is pattern or shadow team dancing by couples in a formation team. The choreography may be based on a particular dance or a medley of dances. Formation dancing may be done for exhibition or for competition between teams. There is also a type of formation in Bhangra.
Swedish Dancesport Federation (DSF) administers all dancesport in Sweden. The association was formed on February 25, 1968, and is one of 68 different sports federations in Sweden. DSF became a member of the Swedish Sports Confederation (RF) in 1977, which administers all sports in Sweden. Apart from this membership Swedish Dancesport Federation also is a member of the International Dancesport Federation (IDSF) from June 19, 2011, known as the World DanceSport Federation (WDSF) and the World Rock'n'Roll Confederation (WRRC). The office lies in Farsta, Stockholm.
Karina Smirnoff is a professional ballroom dancer. She is known as a professional dancer on Dancing with the Stars, where she won the thirteenth season with army veteran and soap opera star J. R. Martinez. She has also won two runner-up titles, a semifinal title, and several quarterfinal titles.
Dancesport has been part of the World Games since the 1997 edition. Among the disciplines are Standard, Latin, Salsa and Rock'n'Roll.
The dancesport competitions at the 2001 World Games in Akita was played between 25 and 26 August. 94 dancers, from 26 nations, participated in the tournament. The dancesport competition took place at Akita City Gymnasium.
Oxford University Dancesport Club (OUDC) is Oxford University's largest sports club and is the second largest club at the university after the Oxford Union. Founded in 1968 it currently has an annual membership of around 800 members. It runs professionally taught classes in the following dance styles:
Shirley Annette Ballas is an English dancer and television personality. She specialises in the International Latin division, where she won several championship titles which earned her the nickname "the Queen of Latin". In 2017, Ballas was appointed head judge on the BBC One dancing competition show Strictly Come Dancing.
Cambridge Dancers' Club (CDC) first opened its doors in October 1950 as a student society in the University of Cambridge to promote Ballroom and Latin dancing. It has since broadened the styles taught by their professional teachers to include Salsa and Rock 'n' Roll classes, as well as opening to all adult Cambridge residents. The club runs classes five nights a week during Full Term, including classes open to people with no previous dance experience. Classes also run outside Full Term. Having once had an annual membership of over 2000, the club now has a membership that is still well over 1000 members, making it purportedly one of the largest Ballroom and Latin Dancing Clubs in Europe.
The 2017 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, which is also counted as the 5th Asian Indoor Games, was held in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan in 2017. It became the third city in the former Soviet countries to win the right of hosting an Olympic Council of Asia-sanctioned event, following Astana and Almaty in Kazakhstan, which jointly-hosted the 2011 Asian Winter Games. The host city was chosen in Kuwait on 19 December 2010. On 6 July 2013 the flag of the Olympic Council of Asia was officially handed over to the mayor of the city of Ashgabat.
Khánh Thi is the grand master of Dancesport of Vietnam and a choreographer of Dance Shows. Khánh Thi and professional dancer Chí Anh used to dance as a couple, but after achieving success, Khánh Thi went on to dance with Phan Hiển who remains her partner to date. She has won many awards in Dancesport, including two Vietnam Open Dancesport Championship Awards, an AIG Award and a SEA Games. With so much success, she has become the grandmaster of Dancesport in Vietnam.
Dancesport is a competitive team sport which includes ballroom dancing. The sport became a part of the Asian Games as a medal sport in 2010 in Guangzhou, People's Republic of China. International governing body of Dancesport, World DanceSport Federation, was recognized by the International Olympic Committee in 1995, and subsequently in 1997 the Asian representative of the sport, Asian DanceSport Federation, was recognized by the Olympic Council of Asia. After the recognition of the Asian DanceSport Federation, the sport was demonstrated at the 1998 Asian Games in Bangkok, Thailand.
Emma Slater is a British/American professional dancer and choreographer. She is known for her appearances on Dancing with the Stars.
Dancing 9 is a South Korean dance survival program by Mnet. 18 contestants are divided into two teams, Blue Eye and Red Wings with 9 members each. A live performance each week where the two teams perform will determine the winner. A prize of 100 million won will be given to the winning team with 300 million won worth of support for dance performances. The person chosen as the MVP will also receive a 100 million won worth of additional benefits.
Joanne Kirsty Clifton is an English professional dancer, presenter, actress, and singer. She won the World Ballroom Showdance Championship in 2014, and won the European Professional Ballroom Championship and World Dancesport Games. She was a professional dancer on the BBC TV series Strictly Come Dancing from 2014 to 2016, winning the fourteenth series with Ore Oduba. She also appeared as an expert presenter on Strictly Come Dancing: It Takes Two in 2015 and 2019.
Aric Yegudkin is an Australian choreographer and professional dancer born on 14 November 1985. Yegudkin is best known as a professional dancer on the Australian Dancing with the Stars.
DanceSport South Africa (DanceSport SA) (DSSA), formerly the Federation of Dance Sport South Africa (FEDANSA), is the governing body for dancesport and related dance styles in South Africa. It is an full member of the world governing body World DanceSport Federation (WDSF) and recognised by SASCOC. DanceSport SA is the sole custodian and controlling body of organised dancesport in South Africa.
Macau competed at the 2017 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games from 17 to 27 September 2017. Macau sent a delegation consisting of 35 competitors for the multi-sport event.
The All India DanceSport Federation (AIDSF) is the national sports federation for dancesport in India.
