Daniel Mulloy (born 1977) [1] is a British artist and filmmaker.

Short films

The work of Daniel Mulloy has often been defined by both its starkness and deceptive simplicity. [2] Mulloy's short films have won over one hundred international festival awards. According to Filmmaker magazine, Mulloy "is one of the world's most well regarded short filmmakers." [3]


He has won four BAFTAs, two of which are British Academy Film Awards, a BIFA and received two nominations for the European Film Academy Award. He received the British Academy Film Award for his films Antonio's Breakfast and Home and received the British Independent Film Award for his film Baby . His short films Dad , Antonio's Breakfast and Baby premiered at Sundance Film Festival. [4]

Feature films

According to Screen International (8 July 2011) Mulloy's (rumoured)[ citation needed ] first feature film as writer/director A Cold Day is "set in a tough New York high school" and will star Melissa Leo. It is being made for Focus Features. [5]

Mulloy is (rumoured)[ citation needed ] to be developing Mitrovica ,[ citation needed ] a Kosovo set film, through the Sundance Institute Feature Film Program. [6] [7]

Mulloy produced the Cuban set film [8] Una Noche directed by his sister Lucy Mulloy. Una Noche premiered at the 2012 Berlin International Film Festival. [9] Una Noche won multiple awards at Tribeca Film Festival [10] [11] [12] [13] ahead of its 2013 US theatrical release.

Mulloy is a passionate believer in the 'Cinema Community' and the DIY attitude that exists within it:

"A community with many strong and individual voices. A community with the festival circuit at its core, making films that shed light on the shape of the world we live in. This community, from my experience, is very good at supporting its members with networks for young non-funded filmmakers helping one another, crewing and offering advice on each others shorts and features." Activism

Mulloy partners with the United Nations to raises awareness of the crisis for migrating populations and refugees. In 2017 he was awarded the Golden Lion at Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity for his work with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. [15]

Antonio's Breakfast is a 2006 Brixton set drama short film written and directed by Daniel Mulloy. It premiered in Sundance Film Festival and went on to win the BAFTA Award for Best Short Film.

Adam Bhala Lough is an American film director, screenwriter, and documentary filmmaker from Fairfax, Virginia. Lucy Mulloy is a screenwriter and film director. She was nominated for the Student Academy Award for her NYU short film "This Morning". In 2010 Mulloy was awarded the Tribeca Film Festival Emerging Narrative Talent Award and in 2012 she won the Tribeca Film Festival as Best New Director. Her debut feature, Una Noche, also won Best Cinematography and Best Actor. She went on to win many awards internationally and Mulloy was nominated for Best New First Feature at the 2014 Spirit Awards.

Kim Bora is a South Korean filmmaker. Her short film, The Recorder Exam won numerous awards including the Best Student Filmmaker Award from The Directors Guild of America. The film was also a National Finalist for the 2012 Student Academy Awards. Kim’s debut feature House of Hummingbird received production support from the Korean Film Council, Seoul Film Commission and Asian Cinema Fund of Busan International Film Festival. The film received post-production support from the Sundance Institute’s Feature Film Program and was selected as an IFP Narrative Lab Fellow. It premiered at the Busan International Film Festival, where it won the NETPAC award and the KNN Audience award. The film went on to collect 59 awards from prestigious festivals, including Berlinale, Tribeca, BFI London, Istanbul, Jerusalem, and a Blue Dragon award—Korea’s equivalent of an Oscar.
