Daniela Albizu Berasategi (Urrugne, Lapurdi, 23 May 1936 - Bayonne, 26 February 2015) was a Basque-speaking teacher, writer, and councillor. She dedicated her entire life to the Basque language and culture.

Her father was from Alava and her mother from Guipuzcoa, having emigrated to Urrugne. Albizu developed a particular attachment to her mother tongue, Basque, after being prohibited from speaking it at school. [1]
Albizu taught at the Maurice-Ravel College in Saint-Jean-de-Luz. [2] In addition to teaching French and Spanish, she devoted herself to teaching Basque. [1] She promoted the Gau Eskolak initiative of Basque classes on the Gure Irratia radio station in Bayonne and was president of the Basque Studies Society. [3] She was the first nationalist councillor in Urrugne, participating in the organisation of the Herritarrak - Herritarron Alderdia group in 1982. [1]
Albizu wrote several books in Basque, including Hiru uhainak (1979, Elkar), Lau sasoi (2003, Maiatz), and Ilargi eta hontz sorginen ipuinak (2006, Pyrémonde). She also collaborated with Joseba Aurkenerena on a collection of poems and stories which were published in Iturri-aldeko nere leihotik (2011, Maiatz). [1]

Countess Andrée Eugénie Adrienne de Jongh, called Dédée and Postman, was a member of the Belgian Resistance during the Second World War. She organised and led the Comet Line to assist Allied soldiers and airmen to escape from Nazi-occupied Belgium. The airmen were survivors of military airplanes shot down over Belgium or other European countries. Between August 1941 and December 1942, she escorted 118 people, including more than 80 airmen, from Belgium to neutral Spain from where they were transported to the United Kingdom. Arrested by the Nazis in January 1943, she was incarcerated for the remainder of World War II. After the war, she worked in leper hospitals in Africa.

Elvire De Greef,, code name Tante Go or Auntie Go, was a member of the Comet Escape Line in World War II. From her house in Anglet in southwestern France, near the border with Spain, she led efforts by the Comet Line in the Basque country to exfiltrate people from occupied Belgium through France to Spain, especially Allied airmen whose aircraft had been shot down by Nazi Germany. Once across the border in neutral Spain the escapees were transported to the United Kingdom. De Greef's husband and two teenage children also worked with the Comet line.
Marijane Minaberri or Marie-Jeanne Minaberry was a Basque author and radio broadcaster. She began writing articles for herself at the age of 20 and then worked as Banca's town hall municipal secretary for a decade. Minaberri then taught 10 and 11-year-old students at Bayonne's Saint Louis de Gonzague church before beginning a broadcasting career on Radio Côte Basque, Gure Irratia and Lapurdi Irratia. She wrote a series of poems and children's stories in both Basque in French and was a member of the Euskaltzaindia. Minaberri is considered a pioneer in Basque radio broadcasting and researchers consider two of her works the beginning of learning of Basque children's literature.
