Dansha Dayan Chandradas also known as Dansha Chandradas (born 21 January 1993) is a Sri Lankan rugby union and rugby sevens player who currently plays as a fullback. [1] [2]

Career

He played a pivotal and integral role for Kandy SC club for nearly 10 years from 2012 to 2022. He joined Kandy SC as a schoolboy in 2012.

He was named in Sri Lankan men's rugby sevens squads for both the 2018 Commonwealth Games and 2018 Asian Games. [3] [4] [5] Sri Lanka would eventually finish at fourth position in men's rugby sevens tournament during the 2018 Asian Games thereby narrowly missing out on a bronze medal after going down 36–14 to South Korea in bronze medal 3rd place match while Sri Lanka finished at fifteenth position in men's rugby sevens tournament at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. [6]

He was appointed as the captain of the Sri Lankan rugby sevens team for the 2019 Asia Rugby Sevens Series. [7] [8] The COVID-19 pandemic took an enormous heavy toll in his professional career especially he missed out the opportunity of representing Sri Lanka at the 2021 Asian Rugby Sevens Championship in UAE due to the fact that Kandy SC had failed to participate in selection trials at that time. [9] He also went onto start on a welding business alongside his father. He faced discrimination and ill-treatment during his stint with Kandy SC and he parted ways with the club in 2022 after a decade. [10]

He was included in 110 member Sri Lankan contingent for the 2022 Commonwealth Games. [11] [12] [13] [14]

The annual home and away competition, featuring eight Division 'A' teams, has been held since 1950. The competition has been held between November and February for the last three seasons. Fazil Marija is a former rugby union player of Sri Lanka. Marija is known as one of Sri Lanka's finest rugby union players and one of Asia's best. He was the former captain of the Sri Lanka national rugby union team. Marija comes from a sporting family background, with at least 17 members through two generations having represented various Clubs, Services Teams and National Rugby teams during the past four decades. Marija hails from the hill capital Kandy.

Nimali Waliwarsha Konda Liyanarachchi is a Sri Lankan 800 m runner and current national record holder in women's 1500m event. She is also believed to be the first Sri Lankan woman to have competed in steeplechase events. She became the first Sri Lankan woman to complete the distance of 3000 metres in steeplechase event under 11 minutes. She won the best athlete award twice at the Presidential award ceremonies by the Sports Ministry including the Most Outstanding Sportswoman of the Year in 2015. She is currently attached to Sri Lanka Air Force.

Dimuth Akalanka Peiris also known as Dimuth Peiris is a Sri Lankan male swimmer and a national record holder in swimming. In August 2018, he became the first ever Sri Lankan student to sit for a Sri Lankan GCE A/L examinations outside Sri Lanka as he was granted special permission to write A/L exams in Jakarta, Indonesia just prior to his preparations for the 2018 Asian Games. Radhika Hettiarachchi is a Sri Lankan rugby union player and coach. He captained both Sri Lanka national rugby union team and Sri Lanka national rugby sevens team. He is regarded as one of the finest rugby sevens players to have emerged from Sri Lanka and he is also nicknamed as Iron Man of Sri Lanka Rugby.

Indrajith Bandaranayake is a former Sri Lankan rugby union player and coach. He currently lives in Australia.
