Dante's is a nightclub and live music venue in Portland, Oregon. The venue, located along West Burnside Street and owned by Frank Faillace, [1] hosts a variety of acts ranging from burlesque to rock music. [2]

History

Faillace opened Dante's in early 2000. [5] In 2017, Pizza Slut replaced the bar's Lonesome's Pizza. [6] [7] Lonesome's had been ranked number seven in The Oregonian 's 2013 list of "Portland's top 10 pizzas by the slice". [8]

Doug Stanhope's Beer Hall Putsch standup album was recorded at Dante's in 2013. [9] Katt Williams performed at the venue in 2018. [10] [11]

American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers took Dante's to court in November 2018 for copyright infringement for unauthorized public performance of ASCAP members' creative work. According to ASCAP, it has made numerous attempts to contact the venue prior to legal actions. [12] [13]

Reception

Dante's was a runner-up in the "Best Music Venue" category of Willamette Week 's "Best of Portland Readers' Poll 2020". [14]

No Vacancy Lounge (NVL) was a short-lived nightclub in Portland, Oregon's Old Town Chinatown neighborhood, in the United States. "No Vacancy" began in 2014 as a party hosted at various local venues. NVL opened in a former McCormick & Schmick's restaurant December 2017, following an approximately $1 million renovation. The venue was named Willamette Week's 2018 Bar of the Year. The club hosted a variety of acts and events but was most known for electronic dance music (EDM). Conflict between NVL, a neighboring tenant, and the property manager began almost immediately. In February 2019, the bar closed as the result of the dispute and financial difficulties; some scheduled events were moved to other venues.

Duane Sorenson opened Roman Candle in 2013, with a menu offering wood-fired pizza and other Italian cuisine, including sandwiches, breads, green salads, pastries, and baked potatoes. Dan Griffin and Joshua McFadden served as the baker and chef, respectively. The bakery started supplying select menu items to Sorenson's Stumptown Coffee Roasters locations in late 2015. Roman Candle received a generally positive reception, with the pizzas and kouign-amann receiving the most praise. The restaurant closed in April 2018 for renovations, ahead of a rebrand as a gluten-free and vegan cafe called Holiday, which Sorenson launched one month later.

The Liquor Store was a bar, restaurant, and music venue in Portland, Oregon. Established in 2015, the business operated in a space previously occupied by the Blue Monk, a jazz club and restaurant, in southeast Portland's Sunnyside neighborhood. It was named the city's best new bar in Willamette Week's annual readers' poll in 2015 and 2016. The Liquor Store's upstairs had a bar and the owner's large vinyl record collection on display. The downstairs venue hosted live music and disc jockeys, playing a variety of genres, especially electronic music. The Liquor Store closed temporarily in March 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic, and two former employees filed a lawsuit claiming sexual harassment one month later. Sometimes confused for an actual liquor store, The Liquor Store closed permanently in September 2020.
