Dardanelles is the self-titled debut extended play by the indie rock band of the same name, which was released on 4 November 2006. It was produced by Woody Annison for Mosquito's Tweeter record label.
Dardanelles were formed in Melbourne in 2006 by Alex Cameron on guitar, James Nicolson on bass guitar, Josh Quinn-Watson on vocals, keyboard and samples, and Ravi Sandhu on drums. [1] They had met at a university. [1] Following 12 months of touring to critical recognition from both fans and the music press, Dardanelles set out to record a few demos. In January 2006 they recorded three tracks. [2]
After the group's second tour of Sydney they signed with independent label, Mosquito's Tweeter. [1] [2] They released a five-track self-titled extended play in November 2006. [3] Quinn-Watson described how "the content of our songs is always cathartic – subjects which haunt or inspire us, or both." [1] Cameron explained, "We wanted to convey the energy and intensity of the songs. In terms of musical ideas, I always find questions like this hard to answer. We listen to and draw influence from such a lot of music and culture that it’s hard to pinpoint exactly where ideas came from." [2]
Two singles were issued from Dardanelles, "Origami Tree" and "Of Course You Said" respectively, both of which underwent the remix knife. "Origami Tree" was remixed by Melbourne electro DJ "Acid Jacks" and another Australian DJ "Riot in Belgium" remixing "Of Course You Said". The success of the EP garnered them enough funds to head back in the studio to record their debut album, Mirror Mirror , which was released in October 2007.
PBS 106.7FM's reviewer observed, "Chop guitars and S&M synth slap against a rhythm section with a disco/dirge split personality. Punk choruses snap into rave breakdowns, indie-rock instrumentals soundtrack white-rap ad-breaks." [1]

Sacred Cowboys were an Australian post-punk and rock band formed by mainstay Garry Gray, as a lead singer-songwriter, and Mark Ferrie in 1982. The line-up has changed as the group splintered and reformed several times, being active from 1982 to 1985, 1987 to 1991, 1994 to 1997 and 2006 to 2008. The August 2006 line-up was Gray with Stephan Fidock on drums; Penny Ikinger on guitar; Spencer P. Jones on guitar; Nick Rischbieth on bass guitar; and Ash Wednesday on keyboards. Past members include: Johnny Crash on drums and Mark Ferrie on bass guitar, who were both ex-Models; Terry Doolan on guitar; Andrew Picouleau on bass guitar; and Ian Forrest on keyboards.

The Blackwater Fever are an Australian blues guitar-drums band, formed in Brisbane, Queensland in 2005. They were awarded Best Blues & Roots Act at the 2006 Sunshine Coast Music Festival. They issued their debut five-track extended play, Abused Blues, in January 2006 by the founding duo of Shane Hicks on vocals and guitar; and Rick DeMarco on drums. The tracks had been recorded live-in-the-studio at OPM Studios, Brisbane. Hicks and DeMarco co-wrote "Blackwater", which provided the band's name, Hicks later recalled "[we were] brain storming for a band name we were having a hell of a time trying to come up with something. One of the first guitar/drums songs we wrote together was called ‘Blackwater’ and it’s about people catching a fever from drinking tainted water. Put all that together and you have our band name! We found out later that it was a term for severe malaria…. And because we were going for a dark swampy bluesy sound, we thought…. Perfect!"

KAV is a British musician from Leicester, England, now based in Los Angeles. Sandhu played guitar with British band Happy Mondays for four years after helping reform the band with frontman Shaun Ryder in 2004. He launched his solo project under moniker "KAV" in 2008 with long-time friend and drummer Jim (James) Portas. His solo material has been compared by the media to Iggy & The Stooges, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Primal Scream, Kasabian, The Rolling Stones and Bob Dylan. He has been a member of indie band The Plums (1992–1995), pop-rock band Deadstar (1997–2001) and country-tinged duo The Tulips (2002–2006). He married visual artist and bandmate Caroline Kennedy-McCracken. By 2005, the couple had two children.

Taipan Tiger Girls is an experimental drone band based in Melbourne, Australia. The line-up consists of Ollie Olsen (synthesiser), Mat Watson (drums) and Lisa MacKinney (guitar). The band formed in 2014 with Watson and Olsen, MacKinney joining later.
Tatenda Mandaza, known professionally as Tendaness, is a Swazi-born record producer, DJ and songwriter.
The Wreckery were an Australian punk blues group which formed in 1985 in Melbourne. The founding members were Hugo Race on vocals and guitar, Robin Casinader on drums, piano, Hammond organ, guitar and violin, Edward Clayton-Jones on guitar, organ and vocals, Tadeusz O'Biegly on bass guitar, and Charles Todd on saxophone and organ. Within a year, Nick Barker had replaced O'Biegly on bass guitar. The band issued two studio albums, Here at Pain's Insistence and Laying Down Law (1988), before disbanding in mid-1989. In 2008, they briefly reunited in support of a compilation album, Past Imperfect.
