Darius Taylor (born October 2, 1978) is an American basketball coach and former player who is currently the general manager of the Connecticut Sun of the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA).

Career

Taylor began his coaching career as an assistant coach at Temple in 2004 under Dawn Staley. He was later an assistant coach at South Carolina, also under Staley. He left South Carolina in 2015 after his fiancée Joni Taylor was named the head coach at Georgia. [1]

Atlanta Dream

Taylor was named an assistant coach for the Atlanta Dream of the WNBA on December 27, 2017. [2] He was named interim head coach on July 24, 2021 after previous interim head coach Mike Petersen resigned due to health issues. [3]

Connecticut Sun

Taylor was named general manager of the Connecticut Sun on November 29, 2022. [4]

Personal life

Taylor's wife Joni is currently the head women's basketball coach at Texas A&M. The couple have two daughters, one born in 2016 and the other in 2019. [5]

Dawn Michelle Staley is an American basketball Hall of Fame player and coach who is currently the head coach for the South Carolina Gamecocks. Staley won three Olympic gold medals with Team USA as a player and later was head coach of another U.S. gold-medal winning team. Staley was elected to carry the United States flag at the opening ceremony of the 2004 Summer Olympics. After playing point guard for the University of Virginia under Debbie Ryan, and winning the gold medal at the 1996 Summer Olympics, she went on to play professionally in the American Basketball League and the WNBA. In 2011, fans named Staley one of the Top 15 players in WNBA history. Staley was inducted into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in 2012. She was elected to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2013.

Angela Taylor is a retired basketball executive for the WNBA between the 1990s and 2010s. Taylor worked at the WNBA's New York City headquarters in multiple executive roles from 1997 to 2006, after she worked as an assistant coach for university basketball teams in the mid-1990s. Taylor worked in business development for the Minnesota Lynx as the vice president from 2006 to 2008. Taylor was the general manager for the Washington Mystics from October 2008 to October 2010, and for the Atlanta Dream from January 2014 to August 2016. Taylor moved to culinary tourism in 2016 after starting a business in Boise, Idaho.

Mike Petersen is a former head coach for the Atlanta Dream in 2021. Before joining the Women's National Basketball Association, Petersen worked as a head coach and assistant coach for American university basketball teams from the 1980s to 2010s. Petersen mainly worked in women's basketball as head coach of the Gonzaga, New Mexico State, TCU, Wake Forest and North Texas. With these teams, New Mexico State finished in sixth at the 1994 National Women's Invitational Tournament and enteredt the first round of the 1995 Women's National Invitation Tournament preseason event. Petersen also made it to the third round of the 2005 Women's National Invitation Tournament with Wake Forest.

The 2022 WNBA season was be the 15th season for the Atlanta Dream of the Women's National Basketball Association. The team began the season on May 14, 2022, on the road against the Dallas Wings.
