The Connecticut Sun are an American professional basketball team based in Uncasville, Connecticut that competes in the Eastern Conference of the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA).

The 2008 WNBA season was their tenth season and their sixth in Connecticut. The Sun successfully advanced to the WNBA Playoffs for the sixth consecutive season. Lindsay Whalen was a key contributor to the club, averaging 14.0 points per game, 5.6 rebounds per game, and 5.4 assists per game.

The 2007 WNBA season was their ninth season and their fifth in Connecticut. The Sun attempted to return to the postseason for the fifth consecutive season and were successful.

Kristi Mary Rose Cirone is an American basketball coach and former player. She played collegiately for Illinois State University and led the school to three national postseason tournaments in 2007 through 2009 while also being named the Jackie Stiles Player of the Year all three years. After her college career, she played professionally with the WNBA's Connecticut Sun and in Europe.

The 2009 Indiana Fever season was their 10th season in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). The Fever attempted to advance to the WNBA Playoffs for the fifth consecutive season and were successful. The Fever reached their first WNBA Finals, but fell short in 5 games to the Phoenix Mercury.

The 2009 WNBA season is the 12th for the Detroit Shock of the Women's National Basketball Association in the United States. The Shock attempted to win the WNBA Finals, tying the record for most championships with the Houston Comets (4), but failed in the conference finals. On June 15, 2009, head coach Bill Laimbeer resigned as head coach of the Detroit Shock, due to family reasons and the desire to become an NBA head coach. Though he was unable to secure an NBA head coaching position, ESPN reported on August 30 that Laimbeer was offered, and accepted, an assistant coach position with the Minnesota Timberwolves. Despite the early struggles, the 2008 champion Detroit Shock reached the playoffs for the seventh straight year. It would be the final year in Detroit, as the Shock were purchased by Tulsa Hoops, and new ownership moved the team to Tulsa for 2010.

The 2009 Los Angeles Sparks season is the 13th season for the Los Angeles Sparks of the Women's National Basketball Association. Lisa Leslie announced that the 2009 season would be her last. On June 5, the Sparks and Farmers Insurance Group of Companies announced a multi-year marketing partnership that includes a branded jersey sponsorship. The Farmers Insurance branded jersey will be worn by the players for the first time on June 6. As part of this alliance, the Farmers Insurance name and logo will appear on the front of the Sparks jerseys and will have considerable visibility in the Staples Center during home games. Los Angeles became only the second WNBA team to finalize such an agreement. The Sparks attempted to reach the playoffs and were successful.

The 2009–10 Duke Blue Devils women's basketball team represented Duke University in the 2009–10 NCAA Division I basketball season. The Blue Devils were coached by Joanne P. McCallie, and the Blue Devils played their home games at Cameron Indoor Stadium in Durham, North Carolina. The Blue Devils are a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Lauren Rochelle Ervin is an American women's basketball player with Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). She attended the University of Kansas as a freshman, then Mt. San Antonio College for her sophomore year, before transferring to the University of Arkansas for her junior and senior year. She was drafted by the Connecticut Sun in the third round of the 2008. Due to her ACL injury, she did not join the Sun until the 2009 season. She played six months in the Swedish Women's Basketball League 2008/09, before heading back to the US. She made the 11-woman opening day roster but was cut when Sandrine Gruda reported to the team in July. The Washington Mystics signed Ervin to a training camp contract in 2010.

The 2010 WNBA season was the 5th season for the Chicago Sky of the Women's National Basketball Association. This was the first season for the Sky in Allstate Arena. The Sky previously played at UIC Pavilion.
