Dark Candy is the 14th studio album by Chara, which was released on April 13, 2011. [1] Dark Candy was released in two versions: a limited edition CD+DVD version (UMCK-9417) as well as a regular CD Only version (UMCK-1382).
This album was Chara's second studio album that wasn't preceded by any singles or promotional tracks, the first being her 2005 effort "something blue". The style of "Dark Candy" is mainly urban with influences from many genres such as electronica, rock, reggae, jazz and ambient.

Miwa Watabiki, better known by her stage name Chara, is a Japanese singer, actress and video jockey. She debuted in 1991 with the single Heaven. She is known for her song "Swallowtail Butterfly ", the theme song for the 1996 Shunji Iwai film Swallowtail Butterfly in which she starred, her 1997 hit single "Yasashii Kimochi", and her collaboration with Judy and Mary vocalist Yuki, "Ai no Hi Mittsu Orange". Chara later formed a band with Yuki, called Mean Machine.
"Punch and Judy" is a song by the British neo-progressive rock band Marillion. It was the first single from their second studio album Fugazi. The lyrics of the song are about a marriage gone bad.
"Candy" is a song by Ash, released as the fourth single from their album Free All Angels on 1 October 2001. It was released as a single CD as a 7" vinyl, as well as on DVD format. Candy performed only slightly better than previous single "Sometimes", reaching number 20 on the UK Singles Chart and number 25 in Ireland.
"I Want Candy" is a song written and originally recorded by the Strangeloves in 1965 that reached No. 11 in the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart. It is a famous example of a song that uses the Bo Diddley beat.
Astrobrite is an American shoegazing project by Scott Cortez (lovesliescrushing) which has included: Melissa Arpin-Duimstra, Andrew Prinz (Mahogany), Odell Nails, Rob Smith, Doug Walker (Xebec), Narasaki, Jason Baron, Andrew Marrah, Laura Callier, Sophie Brochu (Fauvely), as well as other members. Astrobrite began in 1993 as a solo project and, in 1995, the band expanded in order to tour. Astrobrite went on an initial hiatus in 1997 and Scott Cortez moved to Toledo, Ohio for six months. Early in 1998, he relocated to Chicago.
Strange Fruits is the seventh studio album by Chara, which was released on March 17, 1999. It debuted at #3 on the Japanese Oricon album charts, and charted in the top 200 for 9 weeks.
Chara the Best Baby Baby Baby XXX is the first best album of Chara, which was released on October 10, 1995. It features material from her first four studio albums, Sweet, Soul Kiss, Violet Blue and Happy Toy; as well as some new material. It debuted at #5 on the Japanese Oricon album charts, and charted in the top 200 for 13 weeks. It eventually sold 190,000 copies.
