Darrell Roy Hanson (born August 8,1954) is an American politician in the state of Iowa.
Hanson was born in Astoria,Oregon. He attended the University of Kansas,the University of Iowa,and the University of Northern Iowa and is a university instructor. He served in the Iowa House of Representatives from 1979 to 1995,as a Republican. [1]
Robert Mason Hogg is the Iowa State Senator from the 33rd District. A Democrat,he has served in the Iowa Senate since 2007 after having served in the Iowa House of Representatives from 2003 to 2007. He ran in the Democratic primary for the 2016 United States Senate election in Iowa,but he lost to former Iowa Lieutenant Governor Patty Judge. In June 2021,Hogg announced his intention to not seek re-election to his seat in 2022.
Same-sex marriage has been legally recognized in Iowa since a decision of the Iowa Supreme Court on April 3,2009. Marriage licenses became available to same-sex couples on April 27. This ruling was the result of a lawsuit filed in 2005 by six same-sex couples who had been denied marriage licenses in Polk County. In 2007,the Polk County District Court ruled in favor of the couples in Varnum v. Brien. Two couples were married on September 2,2007,before the ruling was stayed and appealed. On April 3,2009,the Iowa Supreme Court unanimously upheld the lower court's ruling,making Iowa the fourth U.S. state to have a state supreme court decision to legalize same-sex marriage. On April 27,2009,Iowa became the third U.S. state,excluding California which had constitutionally banned same-sex marriage,but still recognized prior marriages,to have legalized same-sex marriage,after Massachusetts and Connecticut.
The 2009 Iowa state special elections were held throughout 2009. These elections were to fill vacancies in various state and local positions,most notably in the Iowa House of Representatives. In 2009,neither special election had the potential to change partisan control of the Iowa House,though such races may nonetheless be viewed as predictors for future elections. As of November 4,2009,there have been two resignations from the Iowa House in 2009,resulting in special elections in House Districts 33 and 90.

Hanson received his B.A. from the University of Northern Iowa and his M.A. from the University of Iowa. He was a driver education teacher at Fairfield High School for forty-three years,where he received the Fairfield Jaycee Outstanding Young Education Award and was named Fairfield Teacher of the Year Award. Hanson also was president of the Iowa Association of Safety Education and a member of the National Education Society.
