Darshan Kumar Gandas (born 1 September 1986) is an Indian actor who appears primarily in Hindi films. He is known for his roles in Mary Kom , NH10 and The Kashmir Files . [1] [2] [3] In 2022, He received a Dadasaheb Phalke award for 'Best Actor' for his role in The Kashmir Files . [4]
Kumar born on 1 September 1985, comes from the Kishangarh Village of South West Delhi. [5] At the age of 24, he moved to Mumbai and worked with the Sahej Theatre Group for five years, [6] before joining Motley Productions, where he trained under actor Naseeruddin Shah for the next ten years. [7]
Kumar made his film debut with a supporting role in the film Tere Naam alongside Salman Khan; [8] however, his acting debut was in films with NH10 , portraying the antagonist opposite Anushka Sharma, [9] [10] In 2014, he achieved his breakthrough with the sports film Mary Kom , in which he portrayed the supportive husband of Priyanka Chopra’s character. Kumar appeared in the successful devotional television series Devon Ke Dev...Mahadev , playing Shukracharya, the guru of the demons. [13] He also played supporting roles in Chotti Bahu , Na Aana Is Des Laado , and Baba Aiso Varr Dhoondo . [14]
In 2022, Kumar received further recognition when he starred in the critically acclaimed film, The Kashmir Files, directed by Vivek Agnihotri, in which he played a young student from a Kashmiri Pandit family. [15]
