Darshan Singh Shivalik is an Indian politician from Punjab, affiliated with the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD). He has served as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) representing the Dakha [1] and Gill constituencies in Ludhiana, a seat reserved for Scheduled Castes. [2]
Born to Kehar Singh, Shivalik resides in Lalton Kalan, Ludhiana. He is married to Paramjit Kaur, who has served as a municipal councillor, indicating a family deeply involved in local governance. [3] In October 2024, Shivalik experienced personal loss with the passing of his son, Harpreet Singh Shivalik. [4]
Shivalik began his legislative journey by winning the 2007 Punjab Assembly election from the Dakha constituency. In the subsequent 2012 elections, following a delimitation exercise that redefined constituencies, he contested and won the Gill (SC) seat, defeating Congress candidate Malkit Singh Dakha by a margin of 5,317 votes. In the 2017 elections, Shivalik contested the Gill seat again but was defeated by Congress candidate Kuldeep Singh Vaid. [5] He also contested in the 2022 elections but was defeated by AAP's Jiwan Singh Sangowal. [6]
During his tenure, Shivalik focused on infrastructure development in his constituency. Notably, he initiated a sewerage project to address water drainage issues in the rural areas of Ludhiana. Despite initial resistance from the Municipal Corporation regarding the connection of sewer lines, Shivalik's persistence led to the project's approval and subsequent construction of roads in the area.
