David A. DeCenzo was the eighth chief executive,and second president of Coastal Carolina University from 2007 to 2020. He was a graduate of the University of Maryland and West Virginia University. [1]
DeCenzo is also a member of Coastal Carolina's athletics hall of fame. He is a 2022 inductee to the Sasser Hall of Fame as a non-student athlete inductee. This was to honor his leadership in navigating the university during his time as president. [2] [3] Dr. DeCenzo was also honored in 2021,a year after his retirement from the university,with the formal naming of a new residence hall in his honor,Teal Hall was renamed DeCenzo Hall. [4]

Michael William Krzyzewski,nicknamed "Coach K",is an American former college basketball coach. He served as the head coach at Duke University from 1980 to 2022,during which he led the Blue Devils to five national titles,13 Final Fours,15 ACC tournament championships,and 13 ACC regular season titles. Among men's college basketball coaches,only UCLA's John Wooden has won more NCAA championships (10). Krzyzewski is widely regarded as one of the greatest college basketball coaches of all time.
Coastal Carolina University is a public university in Conway,South Carolina. Founded in 1954 as Coastal Carolina Junior College,and later joining the University of South Carolina System as USC Coastal Carolina,it became an independent university in 1993.
Willie "Bill" Pinkney was an American performer and singer. Pinkney was often said to be the last surviving original member of The Drifters,who achieved international fame with numerous hit records. He was chiefly responsible for its early sounds. The Drifters have had a strong influence on soul,rhythm and blues,and rock and roll music. As an original group member,Bill Pinkney was a 1988 inductee into the Rock &Roll Hall of Fame with The Drifters.
George F. "Buddy" Sasser is a former American football coach and athletics administrator. As commissioner of the Big South Conference between 1989 and 1996,Sasser was responsible for increasing membership,gaining automatic bids to the NCAA basketball tournament and adding basketball television exposure for the conference.
Dow Henry Finsterwald,Sr. was an American professional golfer who is best known for winning the 1958 PGA Championship. He won 11 Tour titles between 1955 and 1963,played on four Ryder Cup teams,and served as non-playing captain for the 1977 U.S. Ryder Cup team.
The Philadelphia Phillies Wall of Fame,officially known as the Toyota Phillies Wall of Fame for sponsorship reasons,is an exhibit located at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia,Pennsylvania. The exhibit is a collection of plaques that honor players and personnel who made significant contributions to the Philadelphia Phillies organization. Each person inducted into the Wall of Fame is honored with a metal plaque showing the person's face,their position with and years of service to the team,along with a summary of the person's notable accolades and contributions during their career. As of 2023,the Phillies have inducted 47 people into the Wall of Fame.
Brooks Stadium is a 21,000-seat multi-purpose stadium in Conway,South Carolina. It is home to the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers football team at Coastal Carolina University. The facility opened in 2003 and is named in honor of Coby Garrett Brooks and Boni Belle Brooks,children of Robert Brooks. Brooks was a Loris,South Carolina native and was the chairman of Hooters of America,Inc. The stadium is notable for its teal artificial turf.
James Anthony Carlen III was an American football player,coach,and college athletics administrator. He served as the head football coach at West Virginia University (1966–1969) and Texas Tech University (1970–1974). He served as both the head football coach and athletic director of the University of South Carolina (1975–1981). Carlen compiled an overall career college football record of 107–69–6.
The Kermit Blosser Ohio Athletics Hall of Fame is the hall of fame for Ohio Bobcats athletes and athletic personnel. Since 1965,selectees to the Hall are inducted during annual ceremonies,including recognition at halftime of a home college football game. Inductees are also honored via display of their portrait and accomplishments in the Hall,located in the university's Convocation Center. Since 2000,the Hall usually names three to five new inductees each year.
Nancy Lynn Hogshead-Makar is an American swimmer who represented the United States at the 1984 Summer Olympics,where she won three gold medals and one silver medal. She is currently the CEO of Champion Women,an organization leading targeted efforts to advocate for equality and accountability in sports. Her areas of focus include establishing nationwide equal play,such as traditional Title IX compliance in athletic departments,protecting athletes from sexual harassment,abuse and assault,as well as combatting employment,pregnancy,and LGBT discrimination. In 2012,she began working on legislative changes to ensure that club and Olympic sports athletes were protected from sexual abuse. In 2018,the Protecting Young Victims from Sexual Abuse and Safe Sport Authorization Act of 2017,which she co-wrote,was enacted.
Michael Taft Benson is an American academic administrator serving as the president and professor of history at Coastal Carolina University. He previously served as president of Eastern Kentucky University,Southern Utah University,and Snow College,and as special assistant to the president at University of Utah. He was appointed Visiting Professor within the Department of the History of Science and Technology at Johns Hopkins University in January 2020.
Quigley Stadium is a football stadium used by Little Rock Central High School. Prior to its 1930s remodeling,the area was known as Kavanaugh Field and was the home field of the Little Rock Travelers baseball team.
James C. Metzger is an American businessman and philanthropist. He is the founder,chairman and chief executive officer of The Whitmore Agency,LLC a Long Island insurance brokerage and financial services firm that opened during 1989. Metzger is a former USILA All-American Team college lacrosse player at Hofstra University and an multi-sport athlete at Half Hollow Hills High School East in Dix Hills,New York. His high school lacrosse jersey (#21) and university lacrosse jersey (#56) have been retired at both schools. His high school football jersey (#21) also has been retired. Metzger has established financial endowments at both his high school and college alma maters. He is recognized as a leading athletics benefactor in New York State.
Harry Rupert "Big Jeff" Jefferson was an American football,basketball,and baseball coach and college athletics administrator. He served as the head football coach at Wilberforce University (1923),Bluefield State College,North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (1930–1931),Virginia State University (1934–1948),Hampton University (1949–1959),compiling a career college football coaching record of 173–92–25. Jefferson led his teams to black college football national championships in 1927,1928,and 1936. Jefferson was the first chairman and charter member of the National Athletic Steering Committee (NASC) in 1951. Later,Jefferson served as president of the NASC in 1957 and was honorary president in 1959. Jefferson was also honored by the NASC in 1958 for 35 years "contributed to the development of youth through athletic coaching and administration." Jefferson was also the first commissioner of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) in 1961. In college,he was a founding member of the Phi chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha at Ohio University. Jefferson died of a heart attack,on April 24,1966,at Mercy Douglas Hospital in Philadelphia. His funeral was held at Arlington National Cemetery.
Ronnie P. Barnes is an American football athletic trainer who is the head athletic trainer for the New York Giants of the National Football League (NFL). He is also their senior vice president of medical services,and has been with the organization since 1976. He graduated from East Carolina University in 1975,and was the first African-American head athletic trainer in the NFL.
