David Agius is a Maltese politician from the Nationalist Party.

He was born on 18 November 1968. He married his wife Deborah, née Spiteri, on 4 May 1996 and they have two daughters Davinia and Désirée. They live in Attard.

He studied Economics and Management at the University of Malta and works at Malta Freeport.

In his youth, he was president of the student council during his post secondary years and later president of the SDM (Maltese Christian Democrat Students). He was also part of the different sections within the structures of the Nationalist Party – MŻPN (Nationalist Party Youth Movement) and Solidarjetà Ħaddiema Partit Nazzjonalista (Nationist Party Workers Section). In these sections he also served international roles such as vice president of EUCDW (European Union of Christian Democrat Workers) within the European Peoples Party, a post which he still holds till today.

He was part of the first newsroom when Radio101 - the radio station of the Nationalist Party - was inaugurated. Later he served as director of the information office of the Nationalist Party. Since 1991 he presented and produced various programmes on Radio 101, Net TV, UTV and Smash TV.

He was elected on the Nationalist Party Executive and Administrative Council in 1996, a post which he still holds today. In 2001, he was elected on the Attard Local Council with the majority of votes.

In the general elections of 2003, he was elected on his first attempt from the 7th district. He was Member of Parliament between 2003 and 2008. During this legislature, he was Chairman of the Consideration of Bills Committee.

In the general elections of 2008, he was elected again as a Member of Parliament, this time from the 11th district. He was also a candidate on the 7th district. During the legislature 2008-2013, he was Government Whip and PN Group Secretary and member of the Maltese Parliament House Business Committee. He was also Head of the Parliamentary Delegation of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association as well as Head of the Malta-France Friendship Group.

In the general elections of 2013, he was elected for the third time as Member of Parliament from the 11th district. He was also a candidate on the 7th district. During the legislature 2013-2017, he was Opposition Whip and PN Group Secretary. He also served as Opposition Spokesperson for local government, youth and sport.

In the general elections of 2017, he was elected for the fourth consecutive time as a Member of Parliament. In this election he was elected from both the 8th and the 11th district. In November 2017 he was elected as the Nationalist Party Deputy Leader for Parliamentary Affairs. During this legislature he was the Opposition Spokesperson for energy and water management, a member of the Maltese Parliament House Business Committee and Petitions Committee, formed part of the Maltese Parliamentary Delegation of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, Vice President of EUCDW (European Union of Christian Democrat Workers) and a member of the Nationalist Party Executive and Administrative Council.

In 2022 he was elected for the fifth consecutive time as a Member of Parliament. He was then elected Deputy Speaker and Shadow Minister for Social Affairs. In January 2024, David Agius was given new responsibilities shadowing EU Funds and Sports.

He has also been confirmed as a candidate for the 2024 European Parliament election. [1]

In January 2024, during a speech at the Parliament of Malta about the Sports Governance and Integrity Act, Agius called out the lack of accountability for corruption cases within Maltese football, stating that "in Malta, people know who is going to win before the game is even played, and it's almost sure who will win the league this year". [2] [3] Agius's statements received criticism from the Malta Football Association, which considered some of his claims to be "nothing short of a slap in the face for all those athletes, volunteers, and most of all fans". The number of men, on the other hand, has exceeded 1000. The number of women contesting general elections has, however, increased over the years. In fact, the 1998 elections saw 24 women candidates participating, the highest number to date, with six of these getting elected, registering a 25 percent success rate.

Cyrus Engerer is a Maltese Member of European Parliament representing the Labour Party. A gay rights activist, he was the leading spokesperson for the Yes campaign at the 2011 Maltese divorce referendum. In 2021 he was tasked with negotiating the European Parliaments historic resolution on the declaration of the European Union as an LGBTQ Freedom zone, in reaction to the establishment of so called "LGBT-Free zones" in Poland. Engerer later went on to write the European Parliaments resolution which condemned the laws in Hungary which effectively banned "LGBT propaganda" in the vicinity of schools. From 2014 till 2019 Engerer was the Prime Minister's special envoy to the European Union. He was elected as a Member of the European Parliament in November 2020. After he joined the Labour Party the Police of Malta opened an investigation against him, leading to his father's arrest, the opening of a court case against him on spreading pornography and the arrest of his mother on election day. He himself was convicted for spreading revenge porn and received a suspended two years term imprisonment. He is the partner of Partit Laburista's Member of Parliament Randolph De Battista.

The Democratic Party was a centrist to centre-left political party in Malta. It was founded in 2016 after a split from the Labour Party. It elected Malta's first two third party MPs for the first time since the country's Independence. In August 2020 the party announced an agreement to merge with the green Democratic Alternative party to form a new party called AD+PD. The merger was conducted on 17 October 2020.

Marlene Farrugia is a Maltese former Member of Parliament and former leader of the Democratic Party. Previously she had been a member of the Nationalist Party, with whom she contested the General Elections in 1996 and 1998, and the Labour Party, with whom she was elected in 2008 and 2013, before resigning in 2015. She formed the Democratic Party in 2016, but left it in 2019.

He was elected to Parliament in the 1996 Maltese general election, and took office on 5 December 1996, and would serve until 20 February 2022 when Parliament dissolved before the 2022 elections. Vassallo was defeated in 2022 elections. Vassallo served as a Parliamentary Secretary in various capacities under the premierships of Eddie Fenech Adami and Lawrence Gonzi from 1998 until 2008. He also served as the mayor of Mosta from 2015 to 2016. Vassallo was also a member of the Parliamentary Petitions Committee in the Thirteenth Legislature from 2017 until 2022.
