Robin Brunskill Cooke,Baron Cooke of Thorndon,was a New Zealand judge and later a British Law Lord and member of the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council. He is widely considered one of New Zealand's most influential jurists,and is the only New Zealand judge to have sat in the House of Lords. He was a Non-Permanent Judge of the Court of Final Appeal of Hong Kong from 1997 to 2006.
The Supreme Court of New Zealand is the highest court and the court of last resort of New Zealand. It formally came into being on 1 January 2004 and sat for the first time on 1 July 2004. The Court of Appeal of New Zealand is the principal intermediate appellate court of New Zealand. It is also the final appellate court for a number of matters. In practice,most appeals are resolved at this intermediate appellate level,rather than in the Supreme Court. The Court of Appeal has existed as a separate court since 1862 but,until 1957,it was composed of judges of the High Court sitting periodically in panels. In 1957 the Court of Appeal was reconstituted as a permanent court separate from the High Court. It is located in Wellington.
William Kenneth Hastings is a Canadian-born judge who served as the tenth Chief Censor of New Zealand from October 1999 to July 2010. He was chairman of the Immigration and Protection Tribunal from July 2010 until February 2013,and is currently a District Court Judge. He was the chair of the Broadcasting Standards Authority from October 2018 until August 2021. He was sworn in as the tenth Judge of the Court Martial of New Zealand on 20 July 2021. On 9 August 2021,Hastings was sworn in as Chief Justice of the Republic of Kiribati,a position he held until 8 December 2022. He was a member of the Supreme Court and Court of Appeal of Vanuatu from July 2023 to June 2024.

William McLeod Wilson is a former judge of the Court of Appeal and Supreme Court of New Zealand. In 2010,he became the first New Zealand judge to resign after being accused of judicial misconduct. Wilson was subjected to the first report by the Judicial Conduct Commissioner,which recommended a Judicial Conduct Panel be formed. This report of the Commissioner was prematurely released to the press and subsequent media attention forced Wilson's resignation from the Supreme Court.
Dame Lowell Patria Goddard,is a former New Zealand High Court judge,from 1995 to 2015. She is thought to be the first person of Māori ancestry to have been appointed to the High Court. In 1988,she was one of the first two women to be appointed Queen's Counsel in New Zealand and in 1989 became the first woman to hold a Crown warrant. In 1992,she became Deputy Solicitor-General for New Zealand. Between 2007 and 2012 she chaired New Zealand's Independent Police Conduct Authority (IPCA). In 2010 she was elected as an independent expert to the United Nations Subcommittee on the Prevention of Torture (SPT) and served in that capacity until 2016. From February 2015 until August 2016,she chaired the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse in England and Wales.
Christopher John Hodson is a New Zealand barrister and judge,Judge Advocate General of the New Zealand Armed Forces,and the Chief Judge of the Court Martial of New Zealand.
Antony "Tony" Shaw is a barrister of the High Court of New Zealand,and a former lecturer of law at Victoria University. He holds an LLB and BA from Auckland University. His practice covers civil and criminal matters. He is regarded as an expert on human rights law. Shaw has appeared widely in the District and High Courts of New Zealand including successful appeals to the Court of Appeal,Privy Council and the New Zealand Supreme Court. Shaw has also appeared in the Employment Court of New Zealand and regularly appears before the New Zealand Parole Board.
Sally Erin Fitzgerald is a New Zealand judge who assumed the role of Chief Judge of the High Court on 20 December 2023,following the appointment made by Attorney-General Judith Collins.
