David Fynn is a British-Irish [1] actor, producer and screenwriter, best known for playing Brett in the NBC TV sitcom Undateable. [2]
He began playing Dewey Finn in the West End cast of Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical School of Rock (based on the 2003 film with Jack Black) in October 2016 at the New London Theatre, for which he received an Olivier Award nomination for Best Actor in a Musical in 2017. [3] [4]
His theatre credits include She Stoops to Conquer at the National Theatre (Evening Standard Nomination), Romeo and Juliet at the National Theatre, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee at the Donmar Warehouse, Mojo at the Royal Shakespeare Company, After the Party in the West End and Starving at Theatre 503 . He trained at Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art.
His other television appearances include Game of Thrones , Sherlock , Doctor Who , The Inbetweeners , The Job Lot , Banana , Big Bad World , Mayday , Black Mirror , Life’s Too Short , Pete versus Life , Peep Show , and Spooks . [5] [6] In January 2021 he appeared as one of the lead characters, journalist Jonathan Hill, in the ITV miniseries The Pembrokeshire Murders . [7] In 2022 he played the part of a journalist in ITV’s ‘’The Thief, his Wife and the Canoe’’, and Alex in BBC’s ‘’Am I Being Unreasonable?’’.
School of Rock is a 2003 comedy film directed by Richard Linklater, produced by Scott Rudin, and written by Mike White. The film stars Jack Black, Joan Cusack, Mike White, and Sarah Silverman. Black plays struggling rock guitarist Dewey Finn, who is fired from his band and subsequently poses as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school. After witnessing the musical talent of the students, Dewey forms a band of fourth-graders to attempt to win the upcoming Battle of the Bands and use his winnings to pay his rent.

Undateable is an American sitcom television series that aired on NBC from May 29, 2014, to January 29, 2016, and originally premiered as a mid-season replacement. The series was created by Adam Sztykiel, based on the book Undateable: 311 Things Guys Do That Guarantee They Won't Be Dating or Having Sex by Ellen Rakieten and Anne Coyle. In the show, bachelor Danny Burton has trouble getting into a relationship with various women he meets. On May 8, 2015, NBC renewed Undateable for a third season that consisted entirely of live episodes, which premiered on October 9, 2015. On May 13, 2016, NBC canceled the series after three seasons.
