John Houston Stockton is an American former professional basketball player. Regarded as one of the greatest point guards, players and passers of all time, he spent his entire NBA career (1984–2003) with the Utah Jazz, and the team made the playoffs in each of his 19 seasons. In 1997 and 1998, together with his longtime teammate Karl Malone, Stockton led the Jazz to the franchise's only two NBA Finals appearances, both of which were lost to the Chicago Bulls.

The National Basketball Association Most Valuable Player Award (MVP) is an annual National Basketball Association (NBA) award given since the 1955–56 season to the best performing player of the regular season. The winner receives the Maurice Podoloff Trophy, which is named in honor of the first commissioner of the NBA, who served from 1946 until 1963. Until the 1979–80 season, the MVP was selected by a vote of NBA players. Since the 1980–81 season, the award is decided by a panel of sportswriters and broadcasters throughout the United States and Canada.

Malone led the Philadelphia 76ers to an NBA championship in 1983, winning both the league and Finals MVP. Widely regarded as one of the greatest players in the sport's history, Malone is also seen as one of the most underrated NBA players.

Maicel D. Malone-Wallace is an American former track and field athlete who specialised in the 400 meters. She was on the 1996 Olympic Games gold medal winning team in the women's 4 x 400 meters relay for the United States.
Kimberly Elaine "Kim" Graham-Miller is an American former sprinter who specialised in the 400 metres event. She represented the United States at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, where she received a gold medal in women's 4x400 metres relay with Rochelle Stevens, Maicel Malone, and Jearl Miles, having run a very fast leg and passing a Nigerian team leading by several meters. She also competed in the women's 400 metres but did not advance past the semifinals. At the 1995 IAAF World Indoor Championships, she won third place in the 4 × 400 m relay, along with her teammates Nelrae Pasha, Tanya Dooley, and Flirtisha Harris.

Anne Marie Malone is a retired Canadian female long-distance runner. She competed for her native country at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, California. There she placed 17th in the women's marathon. She set her personal best in the classic distance (2:33.00) in 1984. She also represented Canada at the 1982 World Cross Country Championships, where she placed 39th and the team placed 5th. At the 1983 World Cross Country Championships, she place 16th, and team Canada took the bronze medal in the team competition with a score of 53 points. On both teams Anne Marie was the third placing runner for Canada.

The 1984–85 Louisiana Tech Bulldogs basketball team represented Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, Louisiana for the 1984–85 season. Although other players on the team as well as head coach Andy Russo were well in the spotlight, the real star of the show for the Bulldogs that season was Karl Malone. Malone would lead the Bulldogs to their best season to date in program history as well as earning himself All-American honors. Following the season, Malone would enter the NBA draft, being selected 13th overall by the Utah Jazz. Spending the majority of his career with Utah, Malone would be named an NBA All-Star fourteen times, NBA Most Valuable Player twice, and be inducted into the Basketball Hall of fame in 2010.
