The David di Donatello Award for Best New Director (Italian: David di Donatello per il miglior regista esordiente) is a film award presented annually by the Accademia del Cinema Italiano (ACI, Academy of Italian Cinema) to recognize the outstanding feature-film directorial debut of a film director who has worked within the Italian film industry during the year preceding the ceremony. [1] The award was first handled out in 1982. [2]

The Accademia del Cinema Italiano is an organization that gives out the David di Donatello Awards. It was founded in 1955 as a part of the Open Gate Club, originally with the name Ente David di Donatello. The organization became independent in 1963. In 2007 it assumed its current name.

The 65th David di Donatello ceremony, presented by the Accademia del Cinema Italiano, honored the best in Italian cinema. The ceremony was hosted by presenter Carlo Conti on 8 May 2020. The awards ceremony was initially set for 3 April 2020 but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Also, the ceremony was held live at RAI Studios and broadcast by Rai 1 while the candidates were connected via video and answered the questions asked by the Carlo Conti from the studio.

The 64th David di Donatello ceremony, presented by the Accademia del Cinema Italiano, was held on 27 March 2019 to honor the best in Italian cinema in 2018. It was hosted by Carlo Conti.
