Saverio Costanzo (born 28 September 1975) is an Italian film and television director.

Biography

Early life

Costanzo was born in Rome, the son of journalist and TV presenter Maurizio Costanzo and writer Flaminia Morandi, and the brother of writer/director Camilla Costanzo. [1]

Career

His debut film was Private in 2004. In 2007, his second feature, In memoria di me , was presented at the 57th Berlin Film Festival. His 2010 film The Solitude of Prime Numbers was nominated for the Golden Lion at the 67th Venice International Film Festival. [2] In 2013, he directed the TV series In Treatment .

His film Hungry Hearts was selected to compete for the Golden Lion at the 71st Venice International Film Festival. [3] [4]

In 2018, he directed and co-wrote the entire first season of My Brilliant Friend , an adaptation of Elena Ferrante's Neapolitan Novels. [5]

Personal life

Costanzo is in a relationship with actress Alba Rohrwacher. [6]

The Solitude of Prime Numbers is a 2010 Italian drama film based on the novel of the same name by Paolo Giordano. Directed by Saverio Costanzo, the film was nominated for the Golden Lion at the 67th Venice International Film Festival. The soundtrack was composed by Mike Patton and released in 2011. The title is explained by arguing that Mattia and Alice are like twin primes: both lonely, close to each other but separated by an even number.

It contains all the music used in the film, and more that was rejected by the director. It also contains music inspired directly by Patton's reading of the book in the original Italian and English translations. The tracklist lists each song by chronological prime numbers, in reference to the film.

At Venice, Adam Driver and Alba Rohrwacher won the Volpi Cup for Best Actor and Best Actress respectively. It was also screened in the Special Presentations section of the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival.

<i>My Brilliant Friend</i> (TV series) Italian-American series

My Brilliant Friend is an Italian- and Neapolitan-language coming-of-age drama television series created by Saverio Costanzo for HBO, RAI and TIMvision. Named after the first of four novels in the Neapolitan Novels series by Elena Ferrante, it is set to adapt the entire literary work over four eight-episode seasons. The series is a co-production between Italian production companies Wildside, Fandango, The Apartment, Mowe and international film group Umedia.
