Davita Prendergast (born 6 December 1984 in Westmoreland) is a Jamaican sprinter, who specializes in the 400 meters.

Career

She ran the 4 x 400 meters relay with Jamaica at the 2007 World Championships in Athletics and the team took the silver medal and recorded a Central American and Caribbean record in the process. Prendergast came in with the Jamaican relay team at the 2010 World Indoor Championships in third place, but was stripped of the bronze medal because of the disqualification of Bobby-Gaye Wilkins.

The 4 × 400 metres relay or long relay is an athletics track event in which teams consist of four runners who each complete 400 metres or one lap. It is traditionally the final event of a track meet. At top class events, the first leg and the first bend of the second leg are run in lanes. Start lines are thus staggered over a greater distance than in an individual 400 metres race; the runners then typically move to the inside of the track. The slightly longer 4 × 440 yards relay, on an Imperial distance, was a formerly run British Commonwealth and American event, until metrication was completed in the 1970s.

Shericka Williams is a Jamaican former sprinter. Together with Novlene Williams, Ronetta Smith and Lorraine Fenton she won a silver medal in 4 × 400 metres relay at the 2005 World Championships in Athletics. She also competed in the individual contest, but was knocked out in the semifinal. Two years later, she won another silver medal in the 4 × 400 metres relay event at the 2007 World Championships in Athletics, this time with Shereefa Lloyd, Davita Prendergast and Novlene Williams. The team set a national record in that race, finishing second to the United States in a time of 3:19.73.

The Women's 4 × 400 metres relay event at the 2011 World Championships in Athletics was held at the Daegu Stadium on 2 and 3 September. Friday and Saturday. This is a change in schedule from previous years when all the relays were at the end of the program. This might necessitate a change in strategy to allow for team members involved in other events.
