The Rajya Sabha,constitutionally the Council of States,is the upper house of the bicameral Parliament of India. As of 2023,it has a maximum membership of 250,of which 238 are elected by the legislatures of the states and union territories using single transferable votes through open ballots,while the president can appoint 12 members for their contributions to art,literature,science,and social services. The total allowed capacity is 250 according to article 80 of the Indian Constitution. The current potential seating capacity of the Rajya Sabha is 245,after the Jammu and Kashmir (Reorganisation) Act,2019,the seats came down to 245. The maximum seats of 250 members can be filled up at the discretion and requirements of the house of Rajya Sabha.

Shankarrao Bhavrao Chavan was an Indian politician who served as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra twice from 1975 until 1977 and from 13 March 1986 until 26 June 1988. He was the Finance Minister of India from 1988 to 1989 in Rajiv Gandhi ministry. Dayanand Balkrishna Bandodkar and popularly known as Bhausaheb Bandodkar was the first Chief Minister of Goa,in the territory of Goa,Daman and Diu. Born in Pernem to a Marathi family who had immigrated from Tuljapur,he became a wealthy mine owner following the Annexation of Goa. He sought to merge the territory with the state of Maharashtra. The elections were held to elect respectively 56 members from 17 states and four seats from Karnataka,four members from Jammu and Kashmir,and 11 members from two states for the Council of States,the Rajya Sabha.

Ashwini Vaishnaw is an Indian politician and former IAS officer who is currently serving as the 39th Minister of Railways,55th Communications Minister and 2nd Electronics &Information Technology Minister in Government of India since 2021 and a member of the Rajya Sabha representing Odisha since 2019. He is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party. Earlier in 1994,Vaishnaw joined the Indian Administrative Service in the Odisha cadre,and has worked in Odisha.
2020 Rajya Sabha elections were the set of indirect elections by the members of State legislatures of India,to elect new members to fill vacancies in the Rajya Sabha –the upper house of the Parliament of India. The elections are held annually and throughout the year on an ad hoc basis. The elections in 2020 are for a total of 73 seats of which 55 of them were to be elected by March 26. The remaining were postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Election Commission of India later announced all the elections for the remaining 24 Rajya Sabha seats were to be held on 19 June 2020.
Sanjeev Arora is an Indian businessman and politician from Aam Aadmi Party who is nominated for the upper house in the Indian parliament,Rajya Sabha. No opposition candidate opposed his election. His term in the Rajya Sabha as a member from Punjab tenure starting from 10 April 2022.
