"Dead Man Walking" is a song by American R&B singer Brent Faiyaz, released on September 18, 2020, as the lead single from his sophomore studio album Wasteland (2022). [1] The song was written by Faiyaz alongside co-producers, Lil Rece, Dpat, and Jordan Ware. [2]

Critical reception

Robin Murray for Clash wrote that the songs "find[s] Brent daring to pull down the curtain of hype that surrounds him, and let fans see a little extra from his world". [3] Pitchfork 's Dani Blud described the single as a track "that distilled a fledgling philosophy for the next quarter of his life". She stated that the song had "slushy harmonies and sleek orchestral production". [4]

Christopher Brent Wood, known professionally as Brent Faiyaz, is an American singer, songwriter, rapper, and record producer. Known for his "sly vocals" and his "atmospheric slow jam productions", Faiyaz is recognized for his R&B and soul music and his occasional rapping. Faiyaz's music often covers the topics of "infidelity, breakups, and oversharing", resulting in several publications labeling Faiyaz—alongside other artists—a "toxic king". He first embarked on his musical career in 2013 with the release of his debut EP, Black Child followed by his second, A.M. Paradox (2016). In 2016, Faiyaz co-founded the R&B trio, Sonder, in which he plays the lead vocalist. Faiyaz rose to prominence following his guest performance alongside Shy Glizzy on GoldLink's 2016 single "Crew". The song peaked at number 45 on the Billboard Hot 100 and received sextuple platinum certification by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The following year, Faiyaz released his debut studio album, Sonder Son (2017).

The album features guest appearances from ASAP Ant, ASAP Rocky, Babyface Ray, Coco Jones, Cruddy Murda, Felix!, Flee, Lil Gray, Missy Elliott, N3WYRKLA, Princess Cro, Tommy Richman, and TTM Dawg. The majority of the album was produced by Dpat alongside Mannyvelli and Sparkheem who also produced several tracks on the project. Larger than Life was preceded by two singles; the Coco Jones-assisted "Moment of Your Life" and "WY@".
