Deadsquad is an Indonesian death metal band formed in 2006 in Jakarta. The band was initially started as a project by guitarist Ricky Siahaan of Seringai and Stevie Item of Andra and The Backbone, but later developed into a full band.

Career

Early formation

Deadsquad was formed in early 2006. [1] Guitarists Stevie Item and Ricky Siahaan wanted to make a project band to fulfill their desire to play metal. Bassist Bonny Sidharta of the band Tengkorak and drummer Andyan Gorust, the former member of Siksakubur were invited to complete the formation. After Ricky Siahaan resigned in June 2006, Prisa Adinda of Zala was recruited to replace him. Shortly thereafter Babal was recruited to be a vocalist. They started to name the band Deadsquad around these times. In November 2007 Prisa Adinda left the band. Her successor Coki Bollemeyer of Netral joined the band one year after, precisely in October 2008. In the same month, singer Daniel Mardhany of the band Abolish Conception joined the band, replacing Babal. [2]

Horror Vision

Horror Vision was released on 9 March 2009 by Rottrevore Records, coincided with Lamb of God concert in Jakarta. The album was also re-released by Malaysian label Dark Colloseum. [3] The album consist of 8 tracks. Musically influenced by bands like Dying Fetus, Necrophagist, and Sepultura, [4] the first track of the album Pasukan Mati tells about the brutality of right-wing fascist mob that are counterproductive. The guitar on this album was influenced by Steve Vai. [4] [5] However, the bass and vocals were not "audible". [5] On "Manufaktur Replika Baptis", they called it tells a coercion of choosing religion in Indonesia. They also covered "Arise" as a tribute to Sepultura. [3]

Second album and Bonny's departure

Deadsquad released the second album Profanatik in November 2013 through Armstretch Records. [6] Bassist Bonny Sidharta left the band in March 2014. There is no official replacement has been made. However, the band hires Arslan Musyfia from the band Carnivored to fulfill bass position. They went through a couple of session player to fill in such as Anak Agung Gde (ex-Villes, Killing Me Inside, and Synystra) and Welby Cahyadi for some time until their original bassist Bonny returns to the band. [7]

Musical styles

The main genre of the band is death metal, mixed with technical, old school, new school, and sometimes with jazz fusion. [3] In early career, they jammed and played songs from Slayer, Anthrax, and Sepultura. They are also influenced by Necrophagist, Visceral Bleeding, Spawn of Possession, Disavowed, Decrepit Birth, and Nile. [2]

The name Slank was inspired by friends who often called them "slengean guys". Slank is an abbreviation of the word "slenge'an" and changes the letter G to K to improve the aesthetic. All personnel have compromised to agree on this naming. In making music, Slank voices his concern for music and the interests of all levels of society in Indonesia.

Burgerkill is an Indonesian heavy metal band, originally from Bandung, capital city of West Java. The band is named after the fast food restaurant Burger King as a prank. The band was founded in May 1995 by Aries Tanto a.k.a. Eben, sometimes called 'Ebenz', a young man from Jakarta, who came to Bandung to continue his study. In Bandung, Ebenz met Ivan Scumbag, Kimung and Dadan. This four personnel became the first line-up of Burgerkill. In 2013, the band won Metal Hammer Golden Gods Awards for Metal as F*ck category.

Siksakubur is an Indonesian brutal/death metal band from Jakarta, formed in July 6, 1996 by Andyan Gorust and Ade Godel. The name of Siksakubur was chosen by Gorust that inspired by Brazilian metal band Sepultura meaning 'grave' in Portuguese as benchmark of their musicality. None of the band founders are listed as band members today, but the legacy of Siksakubur was continued by Andre Tiranda. Siksakubur is a band whose career crept from the grave and began with small concerts and events until international scale events has been through. With consistency and discipline, a journey of more than 2 decades has made Siksakubur equal with the top metal bands and as one of the influential death metal bands in the Indonesian metal scene. Siksakubur was also listed as Metal Hammer's "Top 10 Best Indonesian Metal Bands" and awarded The Hammersonic Awards as "Breakthrough of the Year" at The Hammersonic Festival on May 7, 2017.

"Badai Pasti Berlalu" is an Indonesian song written by Eros Djarot and released in 1977 as part of the soundtrack of Badai Pasti Berlalu. It was originally sung by Berlian Hutauruk but has also been covered by Chrisye and Ari Lasso. Rolling Stone Indonesia ranked it as the third-best Indonesian song of all time.

Hellcrust is an Indonesian death metal band from Jakarta, formed in September 24, 2011 by Bije, Wiro and Andyan Gorust. The band has released three albums, including one mini-album and single that all released under the label of Armstretch Record. Almost all of the members have been part of the iconic band Siksakubur, even though from different generations. Hellcrust's fanbase community known as "Balamaut" which is a community of metal music enthusiast that loyal to the band. Nowadays, Hellcrust is one of the most influential bands in Indonesia as part of the world's most interesting underground metal scene.

Siti Badriah, also known by her alias Sibad, is an Indonesian singer, songwriter, actress, and dancer. She became internationally well known in 2018 due to the popularity of her song Lagi Syantik, which has since gained over 500 million views on the popular streaming site YouTube.

"Il Sogno" is a song by Indonesian singer Isyana Sarasvati. It was released under her own record label Redrose Records as a single on 6 March 2021. Written by Isyana herself, the song describes her dreams and her attempt to understand them. The recording was produced by Kenan Loui and combines progressive rock and classical music elements just like Sarasvati's songs since her third album Lexicon (2019).
