The album marked a significant musical departure from the metalcore sound of preceding album Ascendancy, with the band instead bringing their thrash metal influences to the fore. Accordingly, vocalist and guitarist Matt Heafy sings with primarily 'clean' vocals throughout The Crusade, rather than utilizing the 'screaming' style heard on Ascendancy.

"Like Light" was released in January 2005 and features a mix of screaming and singing. The song contains two guitar solos which are played nearly consecutively to sound as one longer solo; a small interlude is played in the middle of them. The music video features original member Brent Young, and the version of the song used in the video is not the album version but rather the demo version, found previously on the MTV compilation album MTV2 Headbanger's Ball: Volume 2.

It is a variation of the classic Dean ML, and this “newer” version was designed by Matt Heafy of the metal band, Trivium in 2008. Originally Matt Heafy first tried to create an original body style when he was approached by Dean Guitars, and he also attempted to make a modified version of the ML body style but he did not like what he came up with because he stated whatever he tried it just turned out to like something that has already been done before, so he picked this body design because he loves the ML body shape. And proof of this is that a lot of his guitars are the Dean ML body shape or altered versions of this guitar. For example, the Dean Razorback which he has in multiple colors like his white with gold trimmed USA Dean Razorback and a couple of Dimebag Darrell's signature models as well, like the USA Dean Dime Explosion.
Silence in the Snow is the seventh studio album by American heavy metal band Trivium. It was released on October 2, 2015, through Roadrunner Records. It is the first and only album to feature third drummer Mat Madiro, who joined the band in May 2014 and before he had departed from the band in December 2015. It is the band's only album to date to not feature any harsh vocals. Michael "Elvis" Baskette was hired as the producer whom the band had met while recording In Waves album back in 2011.
