Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) is the local government of the Indian city of Kolkata,the state capital of West Bengal. This civic administrative body administers an area of 206.08 square kilometres (79.57 sq mi). Its motto,Purosri Bibôrd̪ʰon,is inscribed on its emblem in Bengali script. It is headed by a mayor,who presides over 144 councillors,each of whom represents one of the 144 wards of the city.
Sujan Chakraborty is an Indian Communist politician and a member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist). He was the MLA of Jadavpur from 2016 to 2021. Mala Roy is an Indian politician who has been a Member of Lok Sabha for Kolkata Dakshin since 2019. She is a member of All India Trinamool Congress party. She has been the Chairperson of Kolkata Municipal Corporation since 2015.
The 2021 Kolkata Municipal Corporation election was held on 19 December 2021 to elect 144 members of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) which governs Kolkata,the capital of the Indian state of West Bengal. A total of 40,48,357 electors were eligible to vote in the election. The results were announced on 21 December.
