Deepak Khadka is a Nepalese politician, belonging to the Nepali Congress, currently serving since 15 July 2024 as the Minister of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation in the cabinet led by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. [1] [2] [3]
Khadka is also serving a member of the 2nd Federal Parliament of Nepal. In the 2022 Nepalese general election, he won the election from Sankhuwasabha 1 (constituency). [4] [5] In November 2016, Khadka also served as a cabinet minister and was appointed Minister of State for Water Supply and Sanitation of Government of Nepal. [6] Khadka was a member of the 2nd Nepalese Constituent Assembly. He won the election from Sankhuwasabha–6 constituency in the 2013 Nepalese Constituent Assembly election. [7] [8] [9]
The Nepali Congress is a social democratic political party in Nepal and the largest party in the country. The party has 870,106 members as of the party's 14th general convention in December 2021, making it the largest party by membership in Nepal. In June 2023, the party started online membership since the emergence of youth leaders in vital posts to attract youths to the party. The party is led by former prime minister, Sher Bahadur Deuba since the party's thirteenth general convention in 2016. The party won 89 seats in the 2022 general election and is currently the largest parliamentary group in the House of Representatives.
