Deeside RFC is a rugby union club based in Banchory, Scotland. The Men's team currently plays in Caledonia North 2.

Contents

History

The club began as Aboyne RFC; but they moved to Banchory in 2011, when 4 new rugby pitches were built. [1] The Deeside name was then adopted to reflect the new catchment area. [2]

The club installed new floodlights in 2014. [3]

The club became a registered charity in February 2017. [4] They have the Scottish Charity Number: SCO47171. [5]

It applied to the council to build a clubhouse in 2019. [6]

Sides

The club takes in Primary 1 to adults, and has around 500 players attending in all ages, male and female. [7]

Sevens tournament

The club runs the Deeside Sevens. It is one leg of the 'Kings of the North' tournament. [8]

The Deeside Railway was a passenger and goods railway between Aberdeen and Ballater in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Opening in 1853 to Banchory, an extension reached Aboyne in 1859. A separate company, the Aboyne & Braemar Railway, built an extension to Ballater and this opened in 1866. By 1855 there were five services a day over the 43+14-mile (69.6 km) long line, taking between 1 hour 50 minutes and 2+12 hours. The line was used by the Royal Train for travel to and from Balmoral Castle from 1853 and a special 'Messenger Train' ran daily when the Royal Family was in residence.
