DCTS was established on 1 October 2003. It absorbed the Royal Navy School of Education and Training Technology, the Army School of Training Support and those elements of RAF Halton that had previously been the RAF's Training and Development Support Unit.
DCTS forms part of the Defence Academy of the United Kingdom. Its mission is to prepare and develop personnel employed to analyze, deliver, design, manage and assure defence training.
DCTS assures the franchised delivery of Defence Trainer Capability development, provides administration for national examinations and acts as an approved Awarding Centre for national vocational awards in education, training and coaching. It also provides specialist training and consultancy on the Defence Systems Approach to Training (DSAT).
Structure
DCTS has three main departments:
Joint Training Development Team: Embedded with a new Training Optimization Cell, the JTDT is responsible for the analysis, design and creation of course content for all courses delivered by DCTS and its franchises.
Franchise Development Team: DCTS supports over 20 franchises to train new trainers, training supervisors and managers. The Franchise Development team is responsible for assuring and managing delivery in these areas including the Internal Quality Assurance of accredited qualifications awarded through the Defence Awarding Authority (DAO).
Training Delivery Group: The DCTS Training Delivery Group is composed of military and Civil Service trainers who deliver a suite of training courses aimed at preparing personnel to analyze, design, deliver, manage and assure Defence Training.

No. 1 Radio School is based at RAF Cosford and forms part of the Defence School of Communications and Information Systems. Its motto is Thorough, which was the motto of the Royal Air Force Electrical and Wireless School.
The Defence Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Centre is a United Kingdom military facility at Winterbourne Gunner in Wiltshire, south of Porton Down and about 4 miles (6 km) northeast of Salisbury. It is a tri-service location, with the Army being the lead service. The centre is responsible for all training issues relating to chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) defence and warfare for the UK's armed forces.

The Joint Air Delivery Test and Evaluation Unit (JADTEU) is a tri-service unit is an Air Warfare Centre Unit located at RAF Brize Norton. Commanded by a Lieutenant Colonel, it has a combined strength of approximately 115 military personnel and civil servants. Its primary role is to conduct operational trials and evaluation and to develop the delivery by air of personnel, machines and materiel on behalf of sponsors. In addition it provides advice/recommendations to MOD sponsors, other government departments, civilian industry and foreign governments on all air transport matters. It received ISO 9001 accreditation in 1997, this a requirement of holding Design Approved Organisation Scheme (DAOS) approval.
The Peace Support Training Centre (PSTC), is located at McNaughton Barracks, CFB Kingston, Ontario, Canada, and is a subordinate unit of the Canadian Army Doctrine and Training Centre. PSTC delivers training to the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF), other Canadian Government Departments (OGDs), and foreign militaries. PSTC is also engaged in instructor exchanges with ABCA, NATO, and other countries.
The Canadian Manoeuvre Training Centre (CMTC) is the Canadian Army's functional centre of excellence (FCoE) for collective training (CT) and is the army CT training authority on behalf of its higher headquarters, the Canadian Army Doctrine and Training Centre (CADTC).
