Delroy "Del" Bryan (born 16 April 1967) is a British former boxer who twice won the British welterweight title and fought for the European title at the same weight.

Career

Born in Nottingham, Bryan's professional career began in 1986. His early results were mixed and included a defeat to George Collins and a win over Daren Dyer in 1987. In October 1987 he won his first title by beating Gary Sommervile to take the Midlands Area welterweight title. He won six of his next eight fights, which included wins over Lloyd Christie and Javier Castillejo, [1] and a defeat to Gary Jacobs, before successfully defending his area title against Michael Justin.

In April 1990 he beat Damian Denny in a British title eliminator, setting up a challenge to Kirkland Laing's welterweight title. Bryan met Laing in January 1991 at the Royal Albert Hall, and took the fight on points to become British champion. [2] He successfully defended the title in November against Mickey Hughes but lost it to Jacobs in his second defence three months later. [2] [3] Three months later he was stopped in the tenth round by Dyer.

After Jacobs vacated the title, Bryan regained it in September 1993 with a points win over Pat Barrett. [2] He defended the title twice, beating both Derek Grainger and Lyndon Scarlett, before facing Jose Luis Navarro for the vacant EBU European welterweight title in December 1994; Navarro stopped Bryan in the tenth round to take the title. [2]

In June 1995 Bryan made the third successful defence of his British title against Gary Logan. [4] His fourth defence came three months later against Chris Saunders. This time Saunders took the points decision to take the title.

Bryan moved up to super welterweight and challenged Ryan Rhodes for the British title in March 1997, Rhodes stopping Bryan in the seventh round. In November 1998 he faced the unbeaten Derek Roche at the same weight for the IBO Inter-Continental title. Bryan was stopped in the tenth round and this proved to be his final fight before retiring.

During his boxing career Bryan has managed by former British welterweight champion Wally Swift. [5]

After retiring from boxing, Bryan worked as a security officer at Nottingham Crown Court before working in construction, while at the same time training youngsters for the Probation Service. [2] [6] He also acted as sparring partner for Jason Booth. [6]

Billy Joe Saunders is a British professional boxer. He has held world championships in two weight classes, including the WBO middleweight title from 2015 to 2018 and the WBO super-middleweight title from 2019 to May 2021. Saunders is the first boxer from the Travelling community to become a two-weight world champion. At regional level he held the European, British, and Commonwealth middleweight titles between 2012 and 2015. Saunders represented Great Britain at the 2008 Olympics as an amateur, reaching the second round of the welterweight bracket. In the same year, he won gold at the EU Championships.

Brian Curvis Welsh boxer

Brian Nancurvis, who fought under the name Brian Curvis as a professional, was a boxer from Swansea, Wales who was active from 1959 to 1966. He fought as a Welterweight, becoming British welterweight champion in 1960. He retired as undefeated champion and is the only welterweight to have won two Lonsdale Belts outright. The four defeats in his professional career were all to foreign boxers; he was never beaten by a British boxer.

Ryan Rhodes is a British former professional boxer who competed from 1995 to 2012. He held the British super welterweight title twice, from 1996 to 1997 and in 2008, and the EBU European super welterweight title from 2009 to 2010. Additionally he challenged for the WBO middleweight title in 1997, and the WBC super welterweight title in 2011.

Ajose Olusegun is a British-Nigerian former professional boxer who competed from 2001 to 2014. He challenged once for the WBC interim super lightweight in 2012. At regional level, he held the ABU super lightweight title in 2004;the Commonwealth super lightweight title from 2007 to 2010; and the British super lightweight title in 2009. As an amateur, he won a gold medal in the light welterweight division at the 1999 All-Africa Games and represented Nigeria at the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games.

Nathaniel "Nat" J. S. Jacobs is an English amateur and professional boxer of the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s, who won the Central (England) Area middleweight title and challenged for the British Boxing Board of Control British middleweight title. His professional fighting weight varied from 145.5 lb, i.e. welterweight, through light middleweight and middleweight, to 163.5 lb, i.e. light heavyweight. He was managed/trained by former boxer Stan Skinkiss.

Wally Swift was a British boxer who won the British welterweight title in 1960 and twice fought for the Commonwealth title before moving up to middleweight, becoming British champion between 1964 and 1965. He went on to fight for the European super welterweight and middleweight titles and the British and Commonwealth middleweight titles.

Tommy Molloy was a British boxer who was British welterweight champion between 1958 and 1960.

Terry Flanagan is a British professional boxer. He held the WBO lightweight title from 2015 to 2017, becoming the first Englishman to win a world title in that weight class. He won the Prizefighter lightweight tournament in 2012, held the British lightweight title in 2014, and has challenged once for the WBO light-welterweight title in 2018. As of November 2020, he is ranked as the world's number twelve best active light-welterweight by BoxRec.

Nick Blackwell British boxer

Nick Blackwell is a British former professional boxer who competed from 2009 to 2016. He won the English middleweight title in 2010, at the age of twenty, becoming the youngest boxer to do so. In 2011 and 2012 he challenged for the Commonwealth middleweight title, and won the British middleweight title in 2015. Blackwell's career was cut short in 2016 after he was forced to retire due to a serious head injury sustained in the ring.
