Dena Mwana is a gospel singer and composer originally from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

Nominated several times and awarded at the African Gospel Music & Media Awards in 2013 and 2019 in London, [1] she has shared the stage with several renowned artists and has already performed more than two hundred performances in more than 16 countries in the world.[ citation needed ] Today, she is considered a reference in French-speaking gospel music.[ citation needed ]

Mwana is signed to Motown Gospel Africa, an American gospel music recording label based in Africa under the Universal Music Group record company through its African subsidiary Universal Music Africa. [2]

Early life

Mwana was born on December 27, 1986, in Kinshasa, Zaire; her name at birth was Denise Mwanakitata Muwayi. [3] She is the sixth child, from a family of eight children. [4] Mwana began singing in public as part of a church choir, "Notre dame de Grâce", in Kinshasa at the age of 13 and she was their music director by the age of 18. [4] In 1998, the choir rose to prominence over a patriotic hymn, which was copied by schools across the DRC, making her vocal style well-known across the country. [5]

Career

In 2003, the professor of Music at the National Institute of the Arts, Rigobert Mbila, suggested that Mwana set up her own singing group. By 2004, her first band, Acapella Thematic Musical Group, was born. [4]

In 2006, Mwana emigrated to the United States to pursue a career in gospel music, settling in Virginia. [4] From 2008, Mwana decided to split her time between the US and the DRC, joining the Philadelphia Mission Choir in Kinshasa as cantor. [4] Her Christian faith is central to her singing, compositions and performance. [6]

In 2013, she became the first artist of the Happy People label, and in 2019 she was signed by Motown Gospel Africa a record label of the major Universal Music Group. [7] She sings in French, English and Lingala. [8]

William is known for pioneering the techno-soukous genre, a variant of soukous that blends techno music with ndombolo, often incorporating elements of electro, dance music, and zouk.

Tokooos is the fourth studio album by Congolese singer Fally Ipupa. It was released on July 7, 2017, by Elektra France, Warner Music France. After having established himself as a continental superstar singer in Africa with his first three albums solos, all produced by David Monsoh, Fally now wanted to open up to the French and more generally Western record market. Ipupa will be signed in 2013 by Julien Creuzard on the AZ label. But in 2016, Julien Creuzard left AZ to found the new label Elektra France, Fally is now under the label Elektra France.

Village Ivoire is a hospitality and entertainment district located on the banks of the Ébrié Lagoon, in the Cocody commune of Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire. Its original building and centerpiece is Hôtel Ivoire, a luxury hotel. A prestige project for the young independent nation of Côte d'Ivoire, the district earned international notice for its lavish amenities, among them a now-closed artificial ice rink which was considered the first of its kind in the West African region. Shortly after its completion, a New York Times article called the Ivoire "sui generis, perhaps Africa's most dazzling hotel".

Extra Musica is a Congolese rumba band formed in Ouenzé, Brazzaville, in August 1993. The band was established by Roga-Roga, Espé Bass, Kila Mbongo, Durell Loemba, Guy-Guy Fall, Ramatoulaye Ngolali, and Quentin Moyascko, who initially met at the Sainte Thérèse church in Ouenzé, being neighbors and classmates. Prior to forming Extra Musica, several members had been associated with the Cogiex Stars ensemble but seceded subsequent to facing punitive repercussions for attempting to infuse new ideas.
