Denny Likmabam (born 10 March 1976) is an Indian actor from Manipur. [1] [2] [3] His films include Phairenthagi Angaoba Leichil, Kaorage , Khuji, Nungshi Hekta Hairage, Hi Sweety Hello Preety and Hiyai. [4] [5]

Career

In 1997, Denny Likmabam joined Sanaleipak Nachom Artistes Association (a Shumang Leela group) as a part-time musician in the orchestra section. [6]

His first film was the 2000 movie Echelsida. He is also the leading actor in the 2002 movie Lammei , the first Manipuri video film to have a commercial screening at a theatre. [7] [8] In 2013, he acted in Makhonmani Mongsaba's Nangna Kappa Pakchade where he plays the role of a lawyer. [9] [10] It participated in Ladakh International Film Festival. [11]

In 2012, he starred in Mamta Murthy's non-fiction movie on Manipuri cinema Fried Fish, Chicken Soup and a Premiere Show . [12] In movies Khuji and Radha Rani, he played antagonistic roles. He took the role of an army officer in School Shooti and a doctor in Amamba Lambee. In Cheitheng Amana, he played two roles.

Accolades

Likmabam was nominated for Best Actor Award for his role in the film Kaorage at the First Festival of Manipuri Cinema 2007, organised by Film Forum Manipur. [13] [14]

<i>Chatledo Eidi</i> 2000 Indian film

Chatledo Eidi is a 2000 Indian Manipuri film directed and produced by Makhonmani Mongsaba under the banner of Sangai Films. It is based on the famous radio play Chatledo Eidi Meigee Ching Puduna by Moirangthem Inao. The film was selected for Indian Panorama of the 32nd International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2001. The movie won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Manipuri at the 48th National Film Awards.

Makhonmani Mongsaba is an Indian author, actor, producer and director from Imphal, Manipur. He got his doctorate degree in Manipuri from Manipur University. In 2013, he won the prestigious Sahitya Akademi Award for his book Chinglon Amadagi Amada, a travelogue. He published the book Matamgi Manipur:The First Manipuri Feature Film by Bobby Wahengbam under the name Angomningthou Preservation and Documentation. It won the Best Book on Cinema at the 65th National Film Awards 2018 and both the writer and the publisher received the Swarna Kamal award.

Moirangthem Inao is a noted Indian playwright, lyricist, producer and director from Imphal, Manipur. He has scripted around 90 plays and most of them are popular radio plays aired on All India Radio, Imphal. Inao has also directed famous Manipuri movies like Nongallabasu Thaballei Manam and Laang. The dialogues from his radio plays have a unique charm and are famous among the radio play lovers of Manipur.

Chinglen Thiyam was an actor, comedian, lyricist and director of Shumang Kumhei theatre in Manipur. He had acted in over 100 plays and directed around 20 plays. Thiyam had also acted in many Manipuri films. He was popularly known as Commando Chinglen from the Shumang Leela Thawaina Punshigidamak. Not only in digital films, but he had also acted in Manipuri celluloid movies. He was conferred with the Iboyaima Shumang Leela Award in 2020 for his profound contribution in Shumang Leela. Wari Loidri, Khomlang Laman, Thawaina Punshigidamak, Sanagi Nga, Keishamthong Thoibi were some of the famous plays where he acted.

Aronba Wari is a 2020 Manipuri film directed by OC Meira and produced by Rajkumari Nalini Devi, under the banner of Seuti Films. It stars Silheiba Ningthoujam, Suraj Ngashepam, Bala Hijam and Sushmita Mangsatabam in the lead roles. The movie is based on Sarungbam Binodini Devi's novel Minoktugi Marumda. It was initially slated to be released on 21 March 2020 but postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Ima Machet Icha Tangkhai is a 2021 Manipuri film directed by Khoibam Homeshwori and produced by Chingsubam Khumanleima for Luwang Films. It stars Gokul Athokpam, Gurumayum Bonny, Abenao Elangbam, Soma Laishram and Luwangthoibi Chanu. The movie was released on 7 November 2021 at Manipur State Film Development Society in the Palace Compound, Imphal, with MP and titular king Leishemba Sanajaoba attending as the chief guest. It was also screened at the Sangai Film Festival 2022, which was organised as a part of the Manipur Sangai Festival.

Larei Lathup is a 2021 Manipuri film written and directed by Ojitbabu Ningthoujam. It stars Silheiba Ningthoujam and Ithoi Oinam in the lead roles. The film was premiered at Manipur State Film Development Society (MSFDS) on 13 November 2021. It was the opening film (fiction) at the Festival of Cinemas of Manipur 2022, a 15-day long multi-lingual film festival organised by MSFDS in April 2022.

Thasi Thanou is a 2010 Manipuri film written by Dr. Jayanta and directed by Mayanglangbam Raghumani (Eepu). The film is produced by M. Loyanganbi Chanu under the banner of Eeraba Pictures. It stars Huirem Seema, Denny Likmabam, Lairenjam Olen and Leishangthem Tonthoi in the lead roles. The movie was released at Friends Talkies, Imphal in 2010. The DVDs of Thasi Thanou were released post Seema's demise in September 2011. The film won an award at the 1st Sahitya Seva Samiti MANIFA 2012.

His main mentor in acting and cinema is his eldest brother and celebrated filmmaker, Ojitbabu Ningthoujam. He started portraying lead roles in movies, starting with the 2014 film Leikai Lallumba. His famous movies include Korounganba series, Leikai Lallumba, Wakchingi Len, Ei Actor Natte and Larei Lathup.

Ithoi Oinam is an Indian film actress who appears in Manipuri films. She started her film acting career as a child artist right from her school days. Oinam Sanou, a celebrated filmmaker, was the man who groomed his daughter Ithoi to the film industry. Ithoi is best known for her role in films like Amukta Ani, Eikhoi Pabunggi, Nungshi Feijei and Tharoi Ahambei Mahao. As of 2023, she won the Best Actor in a Leading Role - Female Award at the 15th Manipur State Film Awards.
