The Deputy Mayor of London for Policing and Crime (DMPC) is head of the Mayor's Office for Policing and Crime, part of the Greater London Authority. The current office holder is Kaya Comer-Schwartz.
Outside of powers to issue a Police and Crime Plan, and to appoint and remove senior Met officers, the role of Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime in London is similar to that of an elected police and crime commissioner elsewhere.
Kit Malthouse was the first Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime, taking on this role at the abolition of the Metropolitan Police Authority. [1] On the re-election of Boris Johnson he was replaced by Stephen Greenhalgh. [2]
The current incumbent is Kaya Comer-Schwartz, who was confirmed as replacing Sophie Linden on 23 October 2024. [3]

The mayor of London is the chief executive of the Greater London Authority. The role was created in 2000 after the Greater London devolution referendum in 1998, and was the first directly elected mayor in the United Kingdom.
The Metropolitan Police Service (MPS), formerly and still commonly known as the Metropolitan Police, or simply the Met, is the territorial police force responsible for law enforcement and crime prevention within Greater London. In addition, it is responsible for specialised tasks throughout the United Kingdom, such as dealing with counter-terrorism throughout the UK, and the protection of certain individuals, including the monarch, royal family, governmental officials, and other designated figures. It is also referred to as Scotland Yard or the Yard, after the location of its original headquarters in Great Scotland Yard, Whitehall in the 19th century. The Met is presently headquartered at New Scotland Yard, on the Victoria Embankment.
The London Assembly is a 25-member elected body, part of the Greater London Authority, that scrutinises the activities of the Mayor of London and has the power, with a two-thirds supermajority, to amend the Mayor's annual budget and to reject the Mayor's draft statutory strategies. The London Assembly was established in 2000. It is also able to investigate other issues of importance to Londoners, publish its findings and recommendations, and make proposals to the Mayor.
A Deputy Mayor is a member of the London Mayoral cabinet, in the executive arm of the Greater London Authority. Sophie Linden is a British politician, who is currently a senior advisor to the Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice Shabana Mahmood. Linden was previously Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime in London from 2016 until 2024. She is a member of the Labour Party.

Boris Johnson served as mayor of London from 1 May 2008 until 5 May 2016, being elected in 2008 and reelected in 2012. During his mayoralty, Johnson oversaw the preparations and hosting of the 2012 Summer Olympics and oversaw the cycle hire scheme. He also with introduced the New Routemaster buses and the Thames cable car, while promoting the proposed Garden Bridge over the River Thames; the project was later abandoned after Johnson left office. Johnson also banned alcohol consumption on much of London's public transport.
The 2022 Islington London Borough Council election took place on 5 May 2022. All 51 members of Islington London Borough Council were to be elected. The elections took place alongside local elections in the other London boroughs and elections to local authorities across the United Kingdom.
Kaya Comer-Schwartz is a British politician who is currently Deputy Mayor of London for Policing and Crime. She was the Leader of Islington Council and the first black leader of Islington.
