Designer Superstar Challenge also known simply as Superstar Challenge is a show hosted by Karen Bertelsen on HGTV Canada that has had four seasons. Similar to the American series HGTV Design Star , the show features aspiring interior designers competing in a series of challenges, following which one contestant is named the "design superstar" at the end of the competition.

It is the original "Superstar" themed show on HGTV, and went on to inspire Handyman Superstar Challenge, Superstar Chef Challenge , and Superstar Hair Challenge .

The winner of the challenge is supposed to get their own design TV show on HGTV, although several non-winners have also emerged as HGTV personalities.

Design on a Dime is a decorating television series that aired on HGTV from 2003 to 2013. In this long-running series, a design team demonstrates how problem areas can be revitalized on a budget of only $1,000. The show was based in Chicago, Ill. and featured a rotation of design teams and hosts. HGTV Star, named HGTV Design Star for the first seven seasons, is an American reality competition show that premiered on July 23, 2006, on the cable television network HGTV. Clive Pearse served as host for Seasons 1-4, then judge Vern Yip served as host for Season 5, replacing Clive Pearse. HGTV'D host Tanika Ray served as host for Season 6 and Design Star Season 1 winner David Bromstad join the show as a mentor. Bromstad later return not only as mentor but as host, replacing Tanika Ray, for the remainder of the show including Design Star: All Stars, even though Tanika Ray announce as host for Season 7. Vern Yip, Genevieve Gorder, and Sabrina Soto currently serve as the show's three judges. HGTV Design Star season 3 was the third season of the American reality TV home design show HGTV Design Star. The season first aired from 8 June to 3 August 2008 on HGTV in 9 weekly episodes. The season was hosted by Clive Pearse and the judges were designers Vern Yip and Cynthia Rowley. The final challenge involved renovating houses damaged during Hurricane Katrina and the winner was chosen in a vote open to viewers. The winner was Jennifer Bertrand, who won her own TV show on HGTV called Paint-Over! with Jennifer Bertrand.
