Devil Kitty, stylized as DEViL KiTTY and DEVIL KITTY, were a Japanese visual kei rock band formed in 2002.
The band formed in September of 2002 by Yuuga, initially going under the pseudonym Paro. Soon after, Yura (ex-Misery and Kilah), Reika (ex-member from La'miss Fairy) and Yuune joined Devil Kitty,they released their first full album in November. [1] Guitarist Reika left the band in February 2003, and Yuune departed in June of that year. After which various lineup changes occurred until stabilizing with Yura and Sasaki (ex member of Lυτёη∀) on guitar, Shita (ex. Loon Eye's Millyie) on bass and Rin (ex. Lilith Noir+) on Drums. Yuuga also owned a record label, Luciffer's Record which had Devil Kitty, as well as few other bands most notably Loon Eye's Millyie and Lυτёη∀. The ex. Vocalist of Lυτёη∀ is now in popular Visual Kei band Kiryu. Devil kitty disbanded on December 4, 2004 after their last live.
After disbanding, Yuuga started a solo project, but retired in 2006. He then revived his career in the band Gokiburi. Yura went on to join the popular visual kei band, Ghost with Rin, and then groups such as Hi:Brid and Kanabun. Sasaki later rejoined his Lυτёη∀ bandmates in the band MADARA, and then joined the popular band CELLT. [2]
Much of Devil Kitty's work was only distributed at various live performances, and many releases were cancelled. Some of these works are considered to be lost media.
In 2015, Devil Kitty made an announcement stating their comeback, but with a completely different lineup with Kazuto on guitars, Ruchi on bass, and Majyu on drums. They have since toured extensively, and have released some material, but have paused activities in 2018.
Devil Kitty was initially known for their unique sound, erratically combining heavy metal with pop rock, with influences from Punk, and often had lo-fi production. When they reformed in 2015, they had switched to Metalcore and Deathcore, but kept the pop rock sound mixed in. Because of the completely different lineups and genre choices between the 2002 and 2015 Devil Kitty, Yuuga considers them to be different bands.
As with most of Yuuga's bands, Devil Kitty often took elements from their own songs as well as Yuuga's other projects combined them and released them as new. The most notable instance is Kikei no 2 channeler being a combination of his past Kar'MariA songs, Kikei no Egao and Dokuzetsu na 2channeler (the former itself a combination of two even earlier Yuuga songs, Smile and Kikei no Kimi he). This would continue in Yuuga's solo project and GOKIBURI, but ended with the formation of the 2015 Devil Kitty.
Devil Kitty was known for being involved in certain controversies. Songs such as Kikei no 2 channeler allude to past drama with the Japanese image board 2 channel. In 2003, a fan alleged that guitarist Totto had raped her. He was then fired from the band, and Yuuga asked people not to work with him or meet him on dating sites.
Malice Mizer was a Japanese visual kei rock band active from 1992 to 2001. The band was famous for their music and their live shows, featuring lavish historical costumes and stage sets, short silent theater pieces preluding various songs.
Siam Shade was a five-piece Japanese rock band, formed in Tokyo in 1991. The classic line-up of Hideki on vocals, Natchin on bass, Kazuma and Daita on guitar, and Jun-ji on drums broke onto the visual kei scene alongside a multitude of other artists in the early 1990s and enjoyed a decade of relative popularity before disbanding in early 2002. The members have reunited several times since 2007 for one-off concerts and short tours. Outside Japan, Siam Shade is best known for "1/3 no Junjō na Kanjō", which was the sixth ending theme of the Rurouni Kenshin anime. Daita's work on their song "Triptych" was named the 83rd best guitar instrumental by Young Guitar Magazine in 2019.
Psycho le Cému is a Japanese visual kei rock band formed in 1999. Its members are Aya, Daishi, Lida, Seek, and Yura-sama (Yuraサマ). Psycho le Cému distinguished themselves in the visual kei scene via their cosplay, with their members dressing in colorful, extravagant outfits inspired by anime and video game characters.
D'espairsRay was a Japanese visual kei rock band active from 1999 to 2011. The lineup of Hizumi on vocals, Karyu on guitar, Zero on bass and Tsukasa on drums remained the same, with the group having released four full-length records, three EPs and thirteen singles. Outside Japan, D'espairsRay have toured Europe and North America and had domestic releases in those territories.
The☆Ultraman is a Japanese animated television series co-produced by Tsuburaya Production and Tokyo Broadcasting System and animated by Sunrise. The series aired on TBS Television affiliates on the Wednesday 7:00 PM time slot from April 4, 1979 to March 26, 1980, lasting a total of 50 episodes. It was the eighth installment in the Ultra Series and began airing four years after the end of Ultraman Leo.
Pierrot was a Japanese visual kei rock band formed in 1994 in Nagano. After changing their name from Dizy-Lizy to Pierrot and several member changes, the final lineup was completed in 1995 with Kirito on vocals, Jun and Aiji on guitar, Kohta on bass and Takeo on drums. After roughly ten years together, Pierrot disbanded in 2006. Their final single was named "Hello", an apt title for a band who started their major career with an album called Finale.
Merry is a Japanese visual kei rock band formed in Tokyo in 2001. The current member lineup consists of Gara on vocals, Yuu on guitar, Tetsu on bass, and Nero on the drums.
Antic Café was a Japanese pop rock band formed in 2003 and signed to Sony Music Japan. Their visual image is oshare kei, and they describe their music as "Harajuku Dance Rock". The group has released six full-length albums, two compilation albums, and four EPs. On September 1, 2009, the band announced that after their live show on January 4, 2010 at the Nippon Budokan, they would suspend activities and put the group on hiatus, however they stated they will not disband. In 2012, after a two-year break, the team announced the resumption of activities. In June 2018, the band announced the departure of all members but Miku and a hiatus beginning in January 2019.
Seikima-II is a Japanese heavy metal band, formed in 1982. Throughout their career they have had numerous lineups, with lead singer Demon Kakka the sole constant member. The group has sold over 10 million records in Japan alone.
Panic Channel was an independent Japanese visual kei rock band signed to Mission Music Factory. They perform under two personae: パニックちゃんねる is their gothy visual kei side, and PANIC☆ch is a light visual boy band side.
Pure Soul is the fifth released album from the Japanese rock band Glay. The album was a slight departure from the rock and power ballad sound the band sported with their previous albums. Pure Soul brought forth a faster alt-rock sound. The album contains such hits as "Yuuwaku", "Soul Love", the concert classic "I'm in Love", and the title track "Pure Soul". The album peaked at #1 on Oricon charts and sold about 2,430,000. It was certified "Triple million" by the Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ).
U-ka saegusa IN db was a Japanese pop rock band formed in Osaka in 2002. The band consists of lead vocalist U-ka Saegusa, lead guitarist Yūichirō Iwai, lead bassist Taku Ōyabu, and drummer Keisuke Kurumatani. Signed to Giza Studio, the band released four studio albums before disbanding in 2010. They're known for performing several theme songs for the Japanese anime series, Case Closed. One of the songs, "Kimi to Yakusoku Shita Yasashii Ano Basho made", became the band's best-selling single, selling approximately 34,000 copies nationwide.
Sophia is a Japanese rock band formed in 1994 by vocalist Mitsuru Matsuoka, guitarist Kazutaka Toyota, bassist Yoshio Kuroyanagi, drummer Yoshitomo Akamatsu and keyboardist Keiichi Miyako. Currently signed to Avex Trax since 2011, they made their major debut in 1995 on Toy's Factory. They changed over to Toshiba EMI in 2004, and Universal Music Japan in 2009.
Akuma no Uta is the fifth album by Japanese experimental music band Boris. Originally released in 2003 on Diwphalanx Records with minimalist artwork, it was re-issued in 2005 on Southern Lord Records with a different cover and more music.
Kannivalism was a Japanese visual kei rock band originally formed in 2001, signed to Free-Will and distributed by Avex Trax. However, they disbanded that same year when baroque was formed, and subsequently reformed with new bassist Yuchi after baroque disbanded in 2006.
Sadie(サディ) is a visual kei rock band from Japan, formed in 2005. Sadie is signed to Face Music and Mijinko Records.
Kisaki is a Japanese musician who has worked with several visual kei bands, including La:Sadie's, Syndrome, Kisaki Project and Phantasmagoria. Besides playing bass and keyboards and composing music, he also works as a producer, previously for the Matina label and currently for Under Code Production. In 2008, when Phantasmagoria broke up, Kisaki once announced his retirement as a musician. However, in 2010, he announced that he was ending his retirement and debuted his new band, Lin -the End of Corruption World.
Ghost was a visual kei rock band from Japan. They started activity in 2004, and changed lineup several times.
D=Out is a Japanese visual kei rock band formed in 2006, previously signed to Speed Disk and Geneon Entertainment. Since 2011, they have been signed to PS Company and Tokuma Japan.
"Yuuwaku" is the 13th single by Japanese band Glay. It reached No. 1 on the weekly Oricon charts and sold 1,611,920 copies in 1998, becoming the best selling Japanese single of the year. It charted for 20 weeks and sold a total of 1,625,520 copies. The title song was used as the TDK "Mini Disc" CM song.
