Diego Tenorio Benavente (born April 21,1959) is a Northern Mariana Islander politician who served as the sixth lieutenant governor of the Northern Mariana Islands from January 14,2002 to January 9,2006,under former Governor Juan Babauta.
Diego Tenorio Benavente was born April 21,1959. He graduated from Carmel High School in 1977. He then attended the College of Southern Idaho receiving an education in electrical engineering. Upon returning from Idaho,he started his own business. [1] Benavente first ran for election in 1987,when he narrowly lost his bid for election to the Northern Mariana Islands House of Representatives in Precinct II by just six votes. [2] However,Benavente was elected to the House in his second campaign in 1989. [2] He served in the House for six consecutive terms,including three terms as the Speaker of the House. [2] He left the House in 2000 to run for Lieutenant Governor in 2001.
Benavente was elected Lieutenant Governor of the Northern Mariana Islands as the running mate of Juan Babauta in the 2001 gubernatorial election. [2] In the 2005 election,the Babauta-Benavente ticket finished third of four candidates with Benigno Fitial and his running mate Timothy Villagomez of the Covenant Party winning the election. [3]
Benavente announced his candidacy for Governor in the 2009 election on December 11,2008. [2] However,Benavente dropped out of the race in February 2009 leaving two candidates - Heinz Hofschneider and Juan Babauta - in the race for the Republican nomination. [4]
Benavente was again elected to the CNMI House of Representatives in 2007. [2] He is currently serves as the Minority Leader of the Northern Mariana Islands House of Representatives as of April 2011. [5]
Benavente was elected president of the CNMI Republican Party on August 28,2023. [6] He resigned the position effective November 20,2024. [7] Former Representative Ramon Angailen Tebuteb succeeded Benavente as the party's chairman. [8] [9]
Juan Nekai Babauta is a Northern Mariana Islander politician who served as the sixth governor of the Northern Mariana Islands from January 14,2002,to January 9,2006.

Benigno Repeki Fitial is a Northern Marianan politician who served was the seventh governor of the Northern Mariana Islands. The second longest-serving governor in CNMI history,Fitial was elected on November 6,2005,assumed office on January 9,2006,and was re-elected to a (five-year) second term in 2009. He was impeached by the CNMI House of Representatives on February 11,2013,and was scheduled to face trial before the CNMI Senate to determine if he should be removed from office. He resigned on February 20,2013,after 7 years,1 month,and 11 days in office.
Pedro Agulto Tenorio,who is often known as Pete A. Tenorio,is a Northern Marianan politician. He served as the fourth Resident representative of the Northern Mariana Islands to the United States from January 14,2002 to January 3,2009. A member of the Republican Party,he was elected to the office first in November 2001 and again in November 2005. He served as the second lieutenant governor of the Northern Mariana Islands from January 11,1982 to January 8,1990.

Froilan Cruz "Lang" Tenorio was a Northern Mariana Islander politician who was the fourth governor of the Northern Mariana Islands. Elected in 1993,he served one term from January 10,1994 to January 12,1998. During his governorship and most of his political career,Tenorio was a member of the Democratic Party of the Northern Mariana Islands,which was not then affiliated with the American Democratic Party. However,he later switched his affiliation to the Reform Party,a party he founded. Froilan Tenorio would later switch back to the Democrat in 2002 and then to the Covenant Party in 2009.
Arnold Indalecio Palacios is a Northern Marianan politician currently serving as the tenth governor of the Northern Mariana Islands,since 2023. The 2018 Northern Mariana Islands general election were held on Tuesday,13 November 2018. Originally scheduled to take place on Tuesday,6 November 2018,to correspond with the 2018 United States midterm elections,the elections were delayed by one week due to the impact and aftermath of Typhoon Yutu. Early voting was held from Tuesday,6 November,until Monday,12 November 2018. An estimated 18,975 voters were eligible to vote in the 2018 election.
The 2022 Northern Mariana gubernatorial election took place on November 8,2022,to elect the governor of the Northern Mariana Islands and the lieutenant governor of the Northern Mariana Islands to a four-year term in office. The 2001 Northern Mariana Islands general election was held on Saturday,3 November 2001,electing the governor and members to the legislature. The 2001 elections marked the last general election that the dissolved Reform Party,which merged back into the Democratic Party in 2002,would appear on the ballot.
