Dil-Humphrey Umezulike, better known as Dilomprizulike (born 1960 in Enugu, Nigeria) is a contemporary artist working in sculpture, performance and painting who has adopted the moniker "Thejunkmanfromafrika". [1] He studied art at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Nigeria, and has an MFA from the University of Dundee, Scotland.
In his work he recycles and transforms heaps of old clothing and other detritus found on city streets, creating sculptural installations and performances that reflect the disenfranchised situation of many African people.
He created the "Junkyard Museum of Awkward Things", a sculptural environment built up from found objects, in Lagos and has also made a version of it for the Oriel Mostyn Gallery in Llandudno, Wales. [2]

Wear and Tear as a concept attempts to expose the often overlooked and underrated elements of the African-Urban communal life which largely influence it. The alienated situation of the African in his own society becomes tragic. There is a struggle inside him, a consciousness of living with the complications of an imposed civilisation. He can no longer go back to pick up the fragments of his father's shattered culture; neither is he equipped enough to keep pace with the white-man's world.
From 2004-2007, his work was exhibited in the famous Africa Remix Exhibition that toured many countries around the globe. The first stop for Africa Remix was at the Museum Kunstpalast , Düsseldorf, Germany, and subsequent locations were, Hayward Gallery , London UK, Centre Pompidou , Paris, France, Mori Art Museum , Tokyo, Japan, Moderna Museet , Stockholm, Sweden, Johannesburg Art Gallery , South Africa. He was also a resident at the Gasworks Gallery while he prepared a piece for the Victoria and Albert Museum and presented his famous "Professor Junk" performance at many of the tours stops.
In 2010 he created Busy Street for the Herzliya Museum of Contemporary Art in Israel. The piece, which was made from local rubbish, was a reflection on Israel's consumer society. [4]
Site-specific art is artwork created to exist in a certain place. Typically, the artist takes the location into account while planning and creating the artwork. Site-specific art is produced both by commercial artists, and independently, and can include some instances of work such as sculpture, stencil graffiti, rock balancing, and other art forms. Installations can be in urban areas, remote natural settings, or underwater.

El Anatsui is a Ghanaian sculptor active for much of his career in Nigeria. He has drawn particular international attention for his "bottle-top installations". These installations consist of thousands of aluminum pieces sourced from alcohol recycling stations and sewn together with copper wire, which are then transformed into metallic cloth-like wall sculptures. Such materials, while seemingly stiff and sturdy, are actually free and flexible, which often helps with manipulation when installing his sculptures. Anatsui was included in the 2023 Time 100 list of the world's most influential people.
Avner Ben-Gal is an international painter and artist, working mainly from Tel Aviv, Israel. His works depict various intense, often neglected locations such as agricultural fields, prisons and smoky interiors, whereby theatrical scenes play out. The scenes present ghostly, rough hewn and often low life figures that are bare and hardened. The parallel between Ben-Gal's raw way of painting and his tough, ambiguous subject matter allows a unique intensity within his paintings.
Michal Heiman is a Tel Aviv-Yafo based artist, curator, theoretician and activist. She is the founder of the Photographer Unknown Archive (1984) and creator of the Michal Heiman Tests No. 1-4 (M.H.T). Nnenna Okore is an Australian-born Nigerian artist who lives and works in Chicago at North Park University, Chicago. Her largely abstract sculptural forms are inspired by richly textured forms and colours within the natural environment. Okore's work frequently uses flotsam or discarded objects to create intricate sculptures and installations through repetitive and labor-intensive processes. She learnt some of her intricate methods, including weaving, sewing, rolling, twisting and dyeing, by watching local Nigerians perform daily domestic tasks. In her more recent works, Okore uses plant-based materials to create large bioplastic art forms and installations. Her work has been shown in galleries and museums within and outside of the United States. She has won several international awards, including a Fulbright Scholar Award in 2012. and the Australian Creative Victoria Award in 2021.
Nick Cave is an American sculptor, dancer, performance artist, and professor. He is best known for his Soundsuit series: wearable assemblage fabric sculptures that are bright, whimsical, and other-worldly, often made with found objects. He also trained as a dancer with Alvin Ailey and often incorporates dance and performance into his works. His later sculptures have focused on color theory and included mixed media and large-scale installations. He lives in Chicago, Illinois, and directs the graduate fashion program at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. He continues to work on Soundsuits as well as works completed as a sculptor, dancer, and performance artist.

The National Gallery of Modern Art, Lagos has an exhibit of colourful abstract canvases by Onobrakpeya and his works can be found at the Virtual Museum of Modern Nigerian Art, although no exhibitions were showing as of October 2017.
