The women's synchronized 3 metre springboard competition at 2011 World Aquatics Championships was held on July 16 with the preliminary round in the morning and the final in the evening session. These were the first gold medals awarded of the 2011 World Aquatics Championships. The top three teams advanced to the 2012 Summer Olympics.

The diving portion of the 2011 World Aquatics Championships was held July 16–24 at the Shanghai Oriental Sports Center in Shanghai, China. Chinese divers dominated, winning all 10 gold medals.

The 14th FINA World Championships were held on July 16–31, 2011 in Shanghai, China at the Shanghai Oriental Sports Center. The 2011 World Championships featured five aquatics disciplines: swimming, water polo, diving, open water, and synchronized swimming. At this championships, synchronized swimmer Natalia Ishchenko, of Russia, was the most decorated competitor winning all six gold medals of her events, at solo, duet and team routines. These championships served as qualifying stages for the 2012 Summer Olympics.

Diving at the 2012 Summer Olympics

The diving competitions at the 2012 Olympic Games in London took place from 29 July to 11 August at the Aquatics Centre within the Olympic Park. It was one of four aquatic sports at the Games, along with swimming, water polo and synchronised swimming.
