Dola Kabarry

Kevin Omondi Migot (born c. 1982) better known for his stage name Dola Kabarry is a benga musician from Kenya. He leads the band Orchestra Super Haki Haki. His songs are mainly in Dholuo language.

His father Barrack Migot led the band Bondo Super Stars. When his father died in 1998, Kabarry took over the band, but left the band soon due to internal rivalry and formed Orchestra Super Haki Haki in 2000. During his early career, he had also played with Okatch Biggy, Awino Lawi and Ouma Jerry among others. [1]

Some of his popular songs by 2003 were "Iwacho Awacha", "Adundo Mum", "Sella" and "Pamela Atoti" [2] Other hits include "Dabed gi Pesa", "Isando Chunya" ,"Wololo","Nyar josakwa" both in early 2007 and "Maoni ya Raia". [1]

In 2003, Kabarry was voted "singer of the year" by the Music Composers Association; the award was shared with Suzzana Owiyo. [3] He won the "Western benga" category at the 2006 Kisima Music Awards [4] and was nominated in 2007. [5] His collaboration song with hip hop group Deux Vultures, "Adhiambo C" was also nominated for Kisima Award. [1] Kabarry held a three-month in tour the USA in 2008 [1] and released a new album, Wololo. [6]

His song "Change the World" is dedicated to US presidential candidate Barack Obama. [1] Kabarry was born in Uhembo village in Alego, Siaya District [1] and thus comes from the same area as Obama's father, Barack Obama, Sr.

He has two wives (Angelina and Jane), three daughters and one son (as of 2008). [1] Dola later married his third wife Consolata and they are blessed with two children.

Hubert Mbuku Nakitare, commonly known by his stage name Nonini, is a Kenyan rapper and former radio presenter. He is often referred to as the Godfather because he is very well known.

David Mathenge, better known by his stage name Nameless, is a Kenyan pop artist.

Tedd Josiah is a music producer from Kenya. He started as a musician, first briefly with the group Ebony Affair before forming a new group, Hart, in 1993.

Tony Nyadundo is a musician from Kenya. He performs the Ohangla, a traditional style of music by the Luo community. He is backed by the Ohangla Boys band. He is now branded the "King of Ohangla".

Peter Gatonye, known better for his stage name Pilipili is a musician/singer from Kenya. At the beginning of his career, he collaborated with another musician, Gun B. Their best known song was "Nampenda". He also did a song with Ratatat. The song was called "Morale".

Musa Juma Mumbo was a rumba and Benga musician from Kenya. He was born to the second wife of his father, a policeman, who had three wives and a total of 18 children. He grew up in Homabay where he attended primary and secondary schools. He began singing and playing instruments at a young age. His first instruments were guitars and drums made from tins and strings. He was the bandleader, guitarist and composer for Orchestra Limpopo International. Most of his music was sung in Dholuo language. Some of his songs are a fusion of the Luo and Congolese musical styles. He also sang in Kiswahili and English.

Born Victor Mbuvi, he drew his love for music from his childhood and inspiration from his mother who died in 1999, a year before Dr Mbuvi launched his music career. Dr Mbuvi joined a group called His Image, who performed a cappella and various renditions of other artistes’ works. We even modernised a Luo gospel folk song Niwara Nono. In 2001, he briefly teamed up with music producer R Kay and a friend to form Injili Group, which recorded Nisamehe – his first ever hit song.
