Dominic Williams MBE is a British diplomat who has served as Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Cambodia since August 2022. He represents the United Kingdom and His Majesty King Charles III in the Kingdom of Cambodia.
Williams joined the Foreign,Commonwealth &Development Office (FCDO) in 2005. His early career focused on international security and peacebuilding within the FCO’s International Security Directorate,where he worked on United Nations peacekeeping and conflict prevention initiatives. [1]
From 2006 to 2007,he served as Consular Strategy Officer in the Consular Directorate in London,before moving to the British High Commission in Colombo,Sri Lanka,as Second Secretary (Political and Public Diplomacy) between 2008 and 2011. [1]
Following his assignment in Colombo,Williams served as Head of the Syria Team in the Middle East and North Africa Directorate of the FCO between 2011 and 2013,working on the Syrian conflict and regional diplomacy. [1]
He then undertook full-time Spanish language training in 2013 before being posted to Lima,Peru,as Deputy Head of Mission and Consul General from 2014 to 2017. [1]
From 2017 to 2020,he was Political Counsellor at the British High Commission in Abuja,Nigeria,managing political and security relations. [1]
Between 2021 and 2022,he undertook Khmer language training in preparation for his next diplomatic posting in Cambodia. [1]
The FCDO announced Williams’s appointment as Her Majesty’s Ambassador to Cambodia in April 2022,succeeding Tina Redshaw. [2] He took up the post in Phnom Penh in August 2022.
As Ambassador,Williams leads the British Embassy’s work on trade,education,governance,and green growth. His diplomatic activities and meetings are regularly documented by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MFAIC). [3] [4] [5]
He has participated in bilateral consultations and dialogues between the two countries,including the Second UK–Cambodia Bilateral Consultations held in London in November 2024. [6]
In 2011,Williams was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in recognition of his work during the Sri Lankan conflict. [1]
