Dominica competed at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece, from 13 to 29 August 2004. The country's participation at Athens marked its third appearance in the Summer Olympics since its debut in the 1996 Summer Olympics. Two track and field athletes, Chris Lloyd and Marie-Lyne Joseph were selected to represent the nation, the latter by a wildcard place as the nation had no other athletes that met either the "A" or "B" qualifying standards apart from Lloyd. Lloyd was selected as flag bearer for the opening ceremony.
The 7th IAAF World Indoor Championships in Athletics were held in the Green Dome Maebashi stadium in Maebashi, Japan from March 5 to March 7, 1999. It was the first time the Championships were staged outside Europe or North America. Primo Nebiolo, president of the IAAF, characterized the championships as "the greatest ever". There were a total number of 487 participating athletes from 115 countries.
The 6th IAAF World Indoor Championships in Athletics were held at the Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy in Paris, France from March 7 to March 9, 1997. It was the first athletic championships to introduce women's pole vault. There were a total number of 712 participating athletes from 118 countries.

The country's participation in Rio marked its sixth appearance in the Summer Olympics since its debut at the 1996 Summer Olympics. The delegation included two athletes: Yordanys Durañona and Thea LaFond, both competing in the men's and women's triple jump, respectively. The former qualified for the Games by meeting qualification standards while the latter entered the quadrennial event through a wildcard place. Neither athlete progressed further than the first round of their sport events.
Yordanys Durañona García is a Cuban-born triple jumper, who competed internationally for Dominica. Switching allegiance from his native Cuba in 2011, he represented Dominica in a multitude of international tournaments, including the 2014 Commonwealth Games, 2015 Pan American Games, and 2016 Summer Olympics. Durañona also achieved his outdoor best jump of 17.20 m (-1.0 m/s) at the 2014 Pan American Sports Festival in Mexico City.

Dominica competed at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Originally scheduled to take place from 24 July to 9 August 2020, the Games have been postponed to 23 July to 8 August 2021, because of the COVID-19 pandemic. It was the nation's seventh appearance at the Summer Olympics.
