Don't Move Here: Inside Portland's Music Scene is an American documentary series about Portland, Oregon's music scene, [1] that relatively recently has become a hot spot for indie bands. [2] [3] [4] [5] The series was created by director and curator Aaron Rose and produced by Wieden+Kennedy Entertainment.
The series features interviews with Portland-based artists, musicians and record label producers, as well as concert footage taken at various underground and less known music venues. [6] [7] Bands, labels and studios profiled so far include Yacht, Grouper, Honey Owens, Jackie-O Motherfucker Mississippi Studios, Rev. Shines, Libretto, Marriage Records, Rob Walmart, States Rights Records, Type Foundry, Jackpot Studios, Explode Into Colors, White Fang, Mississippi Records and Portland Mayor Sam Adams. [8]
In 2010 the series's first season was nominated for the 14th Annual Webby Awards in the music category. [9]

The Portland Institute for Contemporary Art (PICA) is a contemporary performance and visual arts organization in Portland in the U.S. state of Oregon. PICA was founded in 1995 by Kristy Edmunds. Since 2003, it has presented the annual Time-Based Art Festival (TBA) every September in Portland, featuring contemporary and experimental visual art, dance, theatre, film/video, music, and educational and public programs from local, national, and international artists. As of November 2017, it is led by Executive Director Victoria Frey and Artistic Directors Roya Amirsoleymani, Erin Boberg Doughton, and Kristan Kennedy.

Wieden+Kennedy is an American advertising agency best known for its work for Nike. Founded by Dan Wieden and David Kennedy, and headquartered in Portland, Oregon, it is one of the largest independently owned advertising agencies in the world.
Brad Cloepfil is an American architect, educator and principal of Allied Works Architecture of Portland, Oregon and New York City. His first major project was an adaptive reuse of a Portland warehouse for the advertising agency Wieden+Kennedy. Since 2000, Cloepfil and Allied Works have completed cultural, commercial and residential projects including the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis, the University of Michigan Museum of Art, the Dutchess County Residence Guest House and the Museum of Arts and Design. Recent and notable works include the Clyfford Still Museum in Denver, Colorado, completed in November 2011; the National Music Centre of Canada in Calgary, Alberta, which opened in July 2016; and the Providence Park expansion in Portland, Oregon, completed in 2019.

Marriage Records is a small, independent record label formed in Portland, Oregon. It was founded in 2001 by Curtis Knapp and Adrian Orange. The label has released a number of albums by musicians such as Adam Forkner, Dirty Projectors, Little Wings, Lucky Dragons, Tune-Yards, Yacht, and Karl Blau. Artists on the label frequently collaborate and swap members.
Aaron Rose is an American film director, artist, exhibition curator and writer. Rose is known as the co-director of Beautiful Losers, a film that focuses on an art movement which includes artists such as Barry McGee, Margaret Kilgallen, Steven "Espo" Powers, Chris Johanson, Harmony Korine and Shepard Fairey.
David Franklin Kennedy was an American advertising executive who co-founded Wieden+Kennedy (W+K). Some of his most popular campaigns included the "Just Do It", "Bo Knows", and the "Mars and Mike" campaigns for Nike, Inc. He and his creative partner Dan Wieden were listed as number 22 on the Advertising Age 100 ad people of the 20th century.

The Portland Incubator Experiment, often abbreviated as PIE or PIE PDX or stylized as Pie, is a business incubator based in Portland, Oregon that provides mentorship and resources to select startup companies. Co-founded by Renny Gleeson and Rick Turoczy, PIE is run by the Portland-based advertising agency Wieden+Kennedy (W+K). The program was informally launched in 2009 before converting to a formal structure in 2011. PIE participants are chosen by a selection committee, following an application process. Startups receive seed money and spend three months developing their businesses with support from W+K and participating mentors. Companies that have provided financial assistance and mentorship include The Coca-Cola Company, Google, Intel, Nike, Inc. and Target Corporation.

The Portland, Oregon-based advertising agency Wieden+Kennedy has been running with a dope series on its home city called "Don't Move Here," a sentiment some of us totally get since we in fact did move there (and then moved away). Hosted by WK music director/dope photographer/our friend Shayla Hason (WHAT UP SHAYLA), they're interviewing a clutch of Portland's disproportionately copious scene of musicians, artists and ideators, talking about what makes that city so special.
And, crucially, indie groups always have good experiences here, because the city produces very enthusiastic rock crowds. Ask a musician why they relocated to Portland and, from Britt Daniel on down, the most common response is: "We came through on tour and I thought it was awesome." It might not be enough to lure the glitterati, but Portland's combination of affordability, natural beauty, and laid-back weirdness is an independent artist's dream.
And there's no discrimination: Metallers get onstage with pop groups and vice versa, the artists say.
If you've been keeping up with our Newsroom blog this week, you might have noticed a disproportionate amount of Pacific Northwest representation [...] But the point I'm trying to get to in a really roundabout way is actually this: There is a lot of great music in Portland...
One of the great things, and there are many, about living in Portland is our music scene. I probably don't have to tell you too much about the broad strokes since music magazines, blog scribes and even that dying behemoth MTV have gushed out loud about what's going on here. But, what they tend to leave out are the details, the inner-workings and the tinder that keeps the fire burning.

Portland has lots of basements. Portland is creative. And, of course, the biggie: it rains ALL THE TIME. But there are a lot of stories that haven't been told, and I think that's what Wieden+Kennedy is aiming for in Don't Move Here, a new multi-part documentary on the PDX music community that is slowly trickling onto the web.
