San JoséState University is a public university in San Jose,California. Established in 1857,SJSU is the oldest public university on the West Coast and the founding campus of the California State University (CSU) system. The university,alongside the University of California,Los Angeles has academic origins in the historic normal school known as the California State Normal School.
CEFCU ('sef-kyü) Stadium,formerly known as Spartan Stadium,is an outdoor athletic stadium on the west coast of the United States,located in the Spartan Keyes neighborhood of central San Jose,California. Owned by San JoséState University,the venue is the longtime home of Spartan football;it also hosts the university's commencement ceremony on Memorial Day weekend,and occasional high school football games. He has worked in university administration for more than 30 years and has a background in both engineering and business. Qayoumi was born in Afghanistan and is the first Afghan-American to head a major U.S. university.

The 2012 San Jose State Spartans football team represented San Jose State University in the 2012 NCAA Division I FBS football season. The Spartans were led by third year head coach Mike MacIntyre and played their home games at Spartan Stadium. They were members of the Western Athletic Conference. This was the Spartans' final season as members of the WAC. They joined the Mountain West Conference on July 1,2013. They finished the season 11–2,5–1 in WAC play to finish in second place. They were invited to the Military Bowl where they defeated Bowling Green.
The 2013 San Jose State Spartans football team represented San JoséState University in the 2013 NCAA Division I FBS football season. The Spartans were led by first year head coach Ron Caragher and played their home games at Spartan Stadium. The Spartans were first-year members of the Mountain West Conference in the West Division. They finished the season 6–6,5-3 in Mountain West play to finish in a tie for third place in the West Division. Despite being bowl eligible,the Spartans were not invited to a bowl game.
Dwight Essler Bentel was an American journalist and professor. He has been called "the father of journalism" at San Jose State University. In 1934,he founded the Spartan Daily, the campus newspaper. In 1936,he founded the School of Journalism and Mass Communications,which has produced six Pulitzer Prize winners and thousands of journalists,and is one of the largest programs of its kind in the nation. The school renamed the building that houses the school "Dwight Bentel Hall" in 1982. Subsequently,the on campus advertising agency has been named Dwight,Bentel and Hall Communications.

Victory Salute,commonly referred to as the Olympic Black Power Statue,is a monument depicting the 1968 Olympics Black Power salute performed by African-American athletes Tommie Smith and John Carlos. The monument consists of two fiberglass statues covered in ceramic tiles,atop a concrete base designed to emulate the Olympic podium. It was created in 2005 by Portuguese artist Rigo 23 and is installed next to Tower Hall on the San JoséState University campus,in San Jose,California,United States.
