Don William Kassing (born October 8,1941) is an American academic and university administrator at San Jose State University.
Don W. Kassing was born in Saint Louis,Missouri,on October 8,1941. He graduated from Christian Brothers College High School in 1959, [1] before attending Saint Louis University,where he earned a BS and an MBA in Economics. [2] He worked briefly for General Motors and the Brown Shoe Company before becoming a faculty member and president of Southwestern Illinois College's Granite City Campus. After his departure in 1986,he worked as the Vice President of public affairs for Western Colorado University until 1991,and as the Vice President of external affairs for Murray State University until 1993. [3] [4]
Kassing joined San Jose State University in 1993 as the Vice President for Administration. In July 2004,president Paul Yu resigned after only two weeks in the position,which Kassing was then appointed to fulfill on an interim basis. [5] Initially,Kassing had intended to only serve up to two years as interim president,however after only one academic year in the role,he was fully promoted to be the university's president. While in office,Kassing oversaw the early years of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Library,and the construction of the Campus Village,and the Victory Salute monument on campus. [6] He was additionally lauded for his fundraising capabilities,raising a record breaking $100 million over his tenure,which earned the University a WealthEngine Award issued by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education. Kassing retired as president in June 2008,as a part of his retirement ceremony,Kassing was issued an honorary doctorate by the university. Kassing then retired with his family to Anthem,Arizona,his successor to the role was Jon Whitmore. [8]
In 2010,after two years as the president,Jon Whitmore resigned from the presidency in order to accept a job as the CEO of ACT Inc.,Kassing was then asked to come out of retirement to serve as the Interim President until a search for a new president could be completed. [9] He served his second term as interim president from August 2010 to July 2011.
In October 2010,Kassing publicly launched SJSU's first-ever comprehensive capital fundraising campaign dubbed "Acceleration:the Campaign for San Jose State University." [10] The original goal of the multi-year campaign was to raise $150 million but was later increased to $200 million because of the rapid success of the campaign. The campaign would eventually exceed its goal one year earlier than anticipated,raising more than $208 million by 2013. [11]

The Provident Credit Union Event Center,formerly and more commonly known as the Event Center Arena,is a complex consisting of an indoor arena and a fitness club on the main campus of San JoséState University in downtown San Jose,California. Mohammad Humayon Qayoumi is an engineer and professor who formerly served as acting Minister of Finance and as the Chief Adviser on Infrastructure and Technology to the President of Afghanistan. He previously served as President of San JoséState University where he was appointed on March 23,2011. Prior to that,he served as the fourth president of California State University,East Bay. He has worked in university administration for more than 30 years and has a background in both engineering and business. Qayoumi was born in Afghanistan and is the first Afghan-American to head a major U.S. university.

Omon Fitzgerald Hill is a former American football player and coach and college administrator. Hill served as the head football coach at San Jose State University from 2001 to 2004,compiling a record of 14–33. He was the president of Arkansas Baptist College from 2006 to 2016.
The 2012 San Jose State Spartans football team represented San Jose State University in the 2012 NCAA Division I FBS football season. The Spartans were led by third year head coach Mike MacIntyre and played their home games at Spartan Stadium. They were members of the Western Athletic Conference. This was the Spartans' final season as members of the WAC. They joined the Mountain West Conference on July 1,2013. They finished the season 11–2,5–1 in WAC play to finish in second place. They were invited to the Military Bowl where they defeated Bowling Green.
The 2013 San Jose State Spartans football team represented San JoséState University in the 2013 NCAA Division I FBS football season. The Spartans were led by first year head coach Ron Caragher and played their home games at Spartan Stadium. The Spartans were first-year members of the Mountain West Conference in the West Division. They finished the season 6–6,5-3 in Mountain West play to finish in a tie for third place in the West Division. Despite being bowl eligible,the Spartans were not invited to a bowl game.
Dwight Essler Bentel was an American journalist and professor. He has been called "the father of journalism" at San Jose State University. In 1934,he founded the Spartan Daily, the campus newspaper. In 1936,he founded the School of Journalism and Mass Communications,which has produced six Pulitzer Prize winners and thousands of journalists,and is one of the largest programs of its kind in the nation. The school renamed the building that houses the school "Dwight Bentel Hall" in 1982. Subsequently,the on campus advertising agency has been named Dwight,Bentel and Hall Communications.

Victory Salute,commonly referred to as the Olympic Black Power Statue,is a monument depicting the 1968 Olympics Black Power salute performed by African-American athletes Tommie Smith and John Carlos. The monument consists of two fiberglass statues covered in ceramic tiles,atop a concrete base designed to emulate the Olympic podium. It was created in 2005 by Portuguese artist Rigo 23 and is installed next to Tower Hall on the San JoséState University campus,in San Jose,California,United States.
