Natalie Anne Coughlin Hall is an American former competition swimmer and twelve-time Olympic medalist. While attending the University of California, Berkeley, she became the first woman ever to swim the 100-meter backstroke in less than one minute. At the 2008 Summer Olympics, she became the first U.S. female athlete in modern Olympic history to win six medals in one Olympiad, and the first woman ever to win a 100-meter backstroke gold in two consecutive Olympics. Beisel competed in the 200-meter backstroke and 400-meter individual medley events at the 2008 Summer Olympics, placing fifth and fourth, respectively, in the world. Melissa Franklin Johnson is an American former competitive swimmer and five-time Olympic gold medalist. She held the world record in the 200-meter backstroke from 2012 to 2019. As a member of the U.S. national swim team, she also held the world records in the 4×100-meter medley relay.
Olivia Smoliga is a 2X Olympian and American competitive swimmer who specializes in backstroke and freestyle events. She won a record eight gold medals at the 2018 World Championships, becoming the first swimmer, male or female, to win eight or more gold medals in a single FINA World Swimming Championships or FINA World Aquatics Championships. Smoliga is the current American record-holder in the 50-meter backstroke. She is also the current Guinness World Record holder for "most gold medals won at a single FINA World Championships" by an individual swimmer. At the 2016 Summer Olympics held in Rio de Janeiro, she won a gold medal for swimming the backstroke leg in the preliminary heat of the 4x100-meter medley relay.
Kylie Jacqueline Masse is a Canadian competitive swimmer. A noted backstroke specialist, she is a five-time Olympic medallist, three-time World Aquatics champion, three-time Commonwealth Games gold medallist, and the 2018 Pan Pacific champion in the 100 metre backstroke. She is currently the captain for the Toronto Titans of the International Swimming League.
Kira Marije Toussaint is a Dutch competitive swimmer who specialises in backstroke. She is the former world record holder in the short course 50 metre backstroke and the Dutch record holder in the long course 50 metre backstroke and 100 metre backstroke, and the short course 50 metre, 100 metre, and 200 metre backstroke. She also holds the European record in the long course and short course 50 metre backstroke. At the 2021 FINA Swimming World Cup, Toussaint placed second overall for a competitor of any gender in terms of total points scored and earned 11 gold medals.

Kaylee Rochelle McKeown is an Australian swimmer and quintuple Olympic gold medalist. She is the reigning Olympic champion in the 100 and 200 metres backstroke. She is the world record holder in the long course 50 metre backstroke and the long course 200 metre backstroke, and formerly in the 100 metre backstroke and 200 metre backstroke. She won gold in both the 100 metre and 200 metre backstroke at both the 2020 and 2024 Olympics. In 2023, she was named as the "Best Female Swimmer of the Year" by World Aquatics, after sweeping gold in all three events of backstroke at all three World Cup legs, held in Berlin, Athens and Budapest in October, 2023.
Ali Galyer is a New Zealand swimmer. Born in Australia before moving to USA when she was three, she had never lived in New Zealand. Her New Zealand citizenship comes from her father. She went to the University of Kentucky where she studied marketing. After she finished at Kentucky, she moved to New Zealand to live and train with the Coast Swim Club elite team.
Phoebe Bacon is an American swimmer. Bacon is a two time Olympian. In 2021, she qualified for the US Olympic Swimming Team, placing second in the 200m backstroke at the Olympic Team Trials. On June 21, 2024, Bacon made it to the finish to place second and secure her second ticket to the Olympics, where she will compete in Paris. She holds the 5th fastest 100 m Backstroke swim in the world for the 2019 calendar year, and was a member of the gold medal-winning 4 × 100 m medley relay team at the 2019 Pan American Games. She also won three gold medals at the 2018 Junior Pan Pacific Championships, and was a gold medalist in the 100m back at 2019 Pan American Games. Additionally, she was a gold medalist in the 100m back at the 2019 Toyota U.S. Open, beating the world record holding Regan Smith.
Alicia Wilson is a British swimmer. She competed in the women's 100 metre backstroke event at the 2020 European Aquatics Championships, in Budapest, Hungary.
Rhyan Elizabeth White is an American swimmer. She won a silver medal in the 4x100-meter medley relay at the 2020 Summer Olympics for her contribution in the prelims of the event and placed fourth in both the 100-meter backstroke and the 200-meter backstroke. At the 2020 Olympics, White also became the first Utah-born swimmer to compete in an Olympic Games. At the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics, she was the only swimmer representing the United States to win a medal. She won her first world title in the 200-meter backstroke at the 2021 World Short Course Championships.
Danielle Hill is an Irish swimmer from Northern Ireland. She competed in the women's 100 metre backstroke at the 2020 Summer Olympics. On 24 June 2021, she set a new Irish national record with a time of 1:00.18 in the 100m backstroke, simultaneously posting an Olympic qualifying time for the delayed Tokyo Games.
Danielle Titus is a Barbadian swimmer. She competed in the women's 100 metre backstroke at the 2020 Summer Olympics. She competes at the collegiate level for the University of Houston, having transferred there from Tulane University. She was raised by Neil and Andrea Titus, along with her sister Tiffany Titus.
