Donatella Palermo is an Italian producer. She received Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature nominations for Fire at Sea with director Gianfranco Rosi [1] at 89th Academy Awards. [2] [3]

Career

Donatella Palermo started her career as a projectionist, later she moved on to production. [4] By 2000, Palermo had already produced such successful film as To Die for Tano , Viol@ , and Appassionate by Tonino De Bernardi. [5] In 2015, she met Gianfranco Rosi and produced his documentary Fire at Sea . [4] The film won the Golden Bear in Berlin. Her second Berlinale-winning project was Caesar Must Die by Taviani brothers. [6]

Gianfranco Rosi is an Italian-American documentary filmmaker. His 2013 film Sacro GRA won the Golden Lion at the 70th Venice Film Festival, while his 2016 film Fire at Sea won the Golden Bear at the 66th Berlin Film Festival. Rosi is the only documentary filmmaker to win two highest awards at the three major European film festivals and is the only director besides Michael Haneke, Ang Lee, Ken Loach, and Jafar Panahi to do so in the 21st century.

Howard Barish is president and CEO of Kandoo Films, an Oscar nominated, Emmy award-winning entertainment company known for its producing partnership with Ava DuVernay. Barish and Kandoo's most recognized project to date, 13th, is a 2016 American documentary from Netflix directed by DuVernay. Centered on race in the United States criminal justice system, the critically lauded film is titled after the Thirteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution, which outlawed slavery.
