The Donetsk Regional Committee of the Communist Party of Ukraine , commonly referred to as the Donetsk CPU obkom, was the position of highest authority in the Donetsk Oblast (until November 9, 1961, Stalino Oblast), in the Ukrainian SSR of the Soviet Union. The position was created on July 20, 1932, and abolished in August 1991. The First Secretary was a de facto appointed position usually by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Ukraine or the First Secretary of the Republic.

Bakhmut in 1924-2016: Artemivsk or Artyomovsk, is a city and the administrative centre of Bakhmut Raion in the Donetsk Oblast of Ukraine. On 4 February 2016 the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine confirmed the name change of the city by returning to the original one. Prior to 2020, Bakhmut was a city of regional significance. It is located on the Bakhmutka River about 89 km away from the administrative center of the Donetsk Oblast, Donetsk. Population: 72,310

Fyodor Andreyevich Sergeyev, better known as Comrade Artyom, was a Russian Bolshevik revolutionary, Soviet politician, agitator, and journalist. He was a close friend of Sergei Kirov and Joseph Stalin. Sergeyev was an ideologist of the Donetsk-Krivoy Rog Soviet Republic.
