Douglas R. Archer was the Mayor of Regina,Saskatchewan,Canada,from 1988 to 2000.
Archer was born in Winnipeg,Manitoba,but was raised in Saskatoon,Saskatchewan. There,he received a Bachelor of Economics,before moving to Regina,Saskatchewan in 1971.
In Regina,Archer began a twelve-year career in the public service of the province,before leaving in 1983 to become a partner in Knight-Archer Insurance Services. In 1985,Archer was elected as a city councillor on the Regina City Council,and became Mayor in 1988. [1]
After becoming Mayor,one of Archer's most noted legacy was to eliminate the city's business tax. [1] The tax,which had caused much controversy among the business community of Regina,had been introduced prior to Archer becoming Mayor,and was replaced by persuading the then Government of Saskatchewan to make payments to all municipalities in the province to compensate for a lack of property taxes. In 1989,Archer established the Regina Regional Economic Development Authority,with the aim of developing Regina's economic potential and promoting tourism. As Regina's Mayor,Archer was elected to the Federation of Canadian Municipalities Board of Directors,serving for twelve years. In 2001,Archer's name was added to the Federation's Roll of Honour for his service in his position,following his leaving the position of Mayor of Regina the previous year. [1]
Archer and his wife Gloria have three children,all of whom live in the Regina area. Through Knight-Archer Insurance Services,the couple are currently active participants in the city's business community. The two sponsor an annual benefit concert,Brighter Futures for Children. [1]

Wilbert Ross Thatcher,was a Canadian politician who served as the ninth premier of Saskatchewan from 1964 to 1971. Thatcher began his career as a member of the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation in 1942,elected first to Moose Jaw City Council and then in 1945 as a Member of Parliament representing Moose Jaw. In 1959,Thatcher made the switch both to Saskatchewan provincial politics and to the provincial Liberal Party,which he led through four provincial elections,winning majority governments in 1964 and 1967. Following his defeat in the 1971 provincial election,Thatcher retired from politics and died shortly afterwards.
The Saskatchewan New Democratic Party,branded as the Saskatchewan New Democrats,is a social democratic political party in Saskatchewan,Canada. The party was founded in 1932 as the Farmer-Labour Group and was known as the Saskatchewan section of the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (CCF) from 1935 until 1967. Allan Emrys Blakeney was a Canadian politician who served as the tenth premier of Saskatchewan from 1971 to 1982. Originally from Bridgewater,Nova Scotia,Blakeney moved to Regina,Saskatchewan,and worked in the province's civil service before running for office with the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (CCF) under Tommy Douglas. Blakeney became leader of the Saskatchewan New Democratic Party (NDP) in 1970. Altogether,he was a member of the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan from 1960 to 1988.
William John Patterson was a Liberal politician and the sixth premier of Saskatchewan from 1935 to 1944. He was first elected to the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan in the 1921 election. He succeeded James G. Gardiner to become the province's first Saskatchewan-born premier.

On December 15,2006,Cline announced his intention to not run in the 2007 election. He continued to serve in Cabinet until May 31,2007. Cam Broten,subsequently Leader of the Saskatchewan NDP and Leader of the Opposition in the Saskatchewan Lesgislature,was elected to replace him as the MLA for Saskatoon Massey Place.
