Douglas Alan Stromback (born March 3, 1967) is an American retired ice hockey right winger who played over 380 regular season and playoff games across several minor hockey leagues. Stromback was drafted in the sixth round of the 1985 NHL Entry Draft, selected 124th overall, by the Washington Capitals.

Career

Stromback was invited to Detroit Red Wings training camp in 1988, but was eventually reassigned to their AHL affiliate on September 20, 1988. [1] After arriving in Erie for the 1988-89 ECHL season, Stromback scored a career-high 40 goals in 50 games, which earned him a spot on the 1988-89 All-ECHL Team.

Stromback's younger brother Richard also played professional hockey. Both Doug and Richard played professional hockey for the Erie Panthers during the 1989-90 ECHL season.

Personal

Once he retired from hockey, Stromback attended Brandon University in Brandon, Manitoba, and received a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration in 1995.

After his graduation, Stromback became an investor and board member of Web Group. Stromback later started a career in structured finance. Over the course of five years, he became a top executive with over $500 million in transactions. [2]

Artūrs Irbe is a Latvian professional ice hockey coach and former goaltender. Born during the Soviet era, Irbe played for various Soviet league teams and the Soviet Union national team before moving to North America in 1991. Fort Wayne Komets Ice hockey team

The Fort Wayne Komets are a minor league ice hockey team in the ECHL. They play their home games at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne, Indiana. This team was previously a member of the Central Hockey League, the original International Hockey League, and the second International Hockey League. They have won four post-season championship titles in the original IHL in 1963, 1965, 1973, and 1993, four in the UHL/second IHL in 2003, 2008, 2009, and 2010, one in the CHL in 2012, and one in the ECHL in 2021. In all of North American professional hockey, only the Original Six teams of the NHL and the Hershey Bears of the AHL have played continuously in the same city with the same name longer than the Komets.

Carolina Thunderbirds Defunct professional ice hockey team

The Carolina Thunderbirds were a professional ice hockey team located in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, United States. The Thunderbirds played their home games at the old Winston-Salem Memorial Coliseum before the arena was demolished in 1989. The team played in the Atlantic Coast Hockey League from 1981 to 1987, the All-American Hockey League during 1987–88 and finally moved into the newly created East Coast Hockey League in 1988.

Rob McVicar Canadian ice hockey player

The Erie Panthers were a professional ice hockey team, and one of the founding members in the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL). Based in Erie, Pennsylvania, from 1988 to 1996, they were one of the most prolific teams in the ECHL. The Panthers were known for their ability to score goals quickly and often, as well as for the over-aggressive style of play that led to an abundance of fights. They currently hold records in 15 different categories in the ECHL and are in the top five of 38 different categories.
